    New rifle

    Evening all
Im in the market for a new rifle, if you were going to buy a new .243 what would it be and why?

Sako 75 stainless. A superb action (Action III) that you will be able to rebarrel in .243 again, 7mm-08, .308, or if feeling adventurous, 6.5x47mm

They are like rocking horse p** though, as I'm not only one that thinks this! Anything sub-£900, bite their arm off...
    Sako 75 6.5x55 - Z6i 3-18x50. Sako 75 .308 Habicht 2.5-10x56. Beretta 690. Benelli M2.

If you are right handed, a Howa 1500.

If left handed a Savage Axis with left hand bolt.

Why? In both cases, relatively inexpensive rifles that will nevertheless outshoot the purchaser. Being neither pretty nor flimsy, you would not be dissuaded from getting it wet, muddy or dusty, nor would you be timid about taking it over rough and difficult ground.

In both cases you are looking at a very strong action which can be used to build something else around when you wear the barrel out.

In both cases you will never struggle to find scope mounts and other accessories.

In both cases, any gunsmith you take it to will have worked on one before.

In both cases you are maximizing the cash you have available for glass, ammunition and anything else you need.

So, that's what I'd do if I were you. Which of course I'm not. But then, I don't have the cash for a new rifle!

When you say "new", do you mean brand new, or just new to you?

It will be new unless some thing exceptional comes along, I have been looking today at a local shop and am at a loss. if I narrow down my preferences I would like a 24" barrel with a magazine that you can top feed.
