Does any of you guys have any experiance of using this setup at driven boar with solid slugs ?
Any comments from people who have used solid shot or aim point sights would be wellcome

Thanks
In advance

I have shot rifled slug through a smooth bore mossberg pump. I take it you are referring to a smoothbore and not a rifled slug barrel? They can be quite accurate to about 80 yards if you are good. I believe there are issues with slugs failing to expand as they are slow velocity. Probably a good set up for close follow up of thin skinned dangerous game but IMHO a poor choice as a primary weapon for boar (though I have no experience of boar). Have used aimpoints on a handgun, superb kit and the modern ones are even better, popular in Europe and some in the military.

I have a 5 shot Benelli manchino with a red dot sight and use it for shooting Boar abroad .I use s&b 1oz slugs and 1/4 choke and it will shoot 5 shot groups of 3" or less at 50 meters all the time .
most driven boar are shot at less than 5o meters and closer to 20 -30 meters .if your gun likes slugs it will do the job just as well if not beter at those ranges .I have shot boar a 45 meters running flat out as a crossing shot and killed them stonedead with slugs and done the same at 10 meters with my .308 and the .444 Marlin (all guns are fitted with a opti-mate red dot sights by the way which cost £100 new 5 years ago ).
one good thing about slugs is that they put a big hole in pig and that makes them ideal for the job on the conntinent they work on the rule of biger is better for boar you do not see any continentals trying to shoot with 6.5 they start at 7mm with heavy bullets and work up as there is no such thing as over kill and they do not like to track a wounded 250 kg + mad wild boar if they can help it.

P.S slugs can also be used in the UK for deer with your fac shotgun

I've fitted my 5 shot Benelli with fibre optic open sights with the intention of using it for boar.

I went for the open sights so that it can still be used as a scattergun if needed and 'cause they're cheaper ;)

It was grouping around 3" at 50 yards before the foresight fell off due to vibration working the screw loose.

I used mine in Tunisia a few times with no probs, I just used open sites and stuck a skeet choke in and have killed pigs out to 50m .
On my last couple of forays I used a Benelli Nova [pump] it's 3 &1/2 " chamber so I used 3&1/2 mag slugs [remmingtons] [they are kept in stock for a well known wildlife park incase of polar bear and wolf escape!], don't ask me for balistic data as I don't have a clue , the next gun down from me in one drive wounded a boar which I then saw disapear into the distance, I aimed over it's back and let drift and it dropped it no probs , the slug caught it through the spine at approx 90m.

If its any help (probably not!) My first choice for driven would be my Escort Semi-auto with solids and a Doctor Optik Red Dot. Out of the red dots Ive used (not many) its the best, I shot running boar targets with a remimgton pump with one ontop and it was very accurate.

You may find there is a restriction on how many cartridges the magazine can hold. I think that its 2+1 for hunting.
My slug gun shoots slugs very well with 2" at 50 mtrs.
Aim point sites are the best because they make them in Sweden :D.

I had to dispatch a few dairy cows and two bulls once. I used solid slugs and was very suprised by the results. Simply alive and then dead. Very effective, but that was at only a few feet away.
