Hi
What dose anybody think about 6.5x68 for Red stags on the hill is it very rough on the barrel and will it need replacing after about 1000 rounds

It's definitely over-bore with regard to case capacity. My 6.5-06 (6.5x64) is, for sure. Hard to say how long the barrel will last, but there are certainly better, more efficient options, I'm certain.~Muir
 
I used to use the '68 on roe and red,devastating on both with a drop of only an inch at 200 if zeroed at 100
Good round but a tad fast on the roe,perfect for red
Used a 120g nosler BT in mine,dropped a bit more than the factory 93g rws rounds
Does burn the barrel more than the '55,then again it's a magnum or near enough one
Chronographed the rws factory rounds at about 3600 fps,fast!If I remember correctly,while now since I used it
That comes at a price,ie barrel and throat wear,wear ear defenders too,wakens the dead at 4am
