Can anyone recommend anyone or course provider for DSC1 in Oxfordshire as I'm currently looking at the BDS who do courses in Hampshire.

thanks in advance

Consider Jelen for DSCL1, also in Hampshire - and they run courses a little more frequently - plus closer to you than Fordingbridge.....

The other place to consider is Corinium Rifle Range near Cirencester.

Not too far from you, Paul Hill at Corinium Rifle Range: http://www.coriniumrange.com/

There was someone I think from Oxford way on the last course Paul took. I recently did my DSC1 with Paul who uses BASC assessors (BASC affiliated course) and have to say it was excellent. Despite 30 years of shooting experience, I went with an open mind and did come away having learnt a reasonable amount. No shortcut to experience, but worthwhile imho and highly recommended. Paul will I think be running the next one in a few months time. His contact details are on his website. He also has the advantage of having his own full bore range close to where the class room stuff is done at Cirencester Rural Innovations centre. Feel free to get in touch if you want an informal chat.

yeh go with, I did mine there, fab facilities, Sal the other half does famous cakes too. no bull approach...

The BDS do a couple of courses a year at Cirencester College. The November one is fully booked according to the BDS website. You could contact them and ask if they have a contact list should one of the candidates cancel.

I have done the HAD course there. The first DSC1 I could get on was with the BDS at Ilkley so I stayed with family there.

Point of my ramble being...look at the providers websites and see who has spaces at a time and place you can get to. BASC, BDS and Jelen. The DMQ is the parent body... DMQ - Assessment Centres for DSC1 and DSC2 they have assessment centres and then others work from them.

No partisanship here, just information…I did my initial centre fire introduction and first stalks with Paul at Corinium range, and have learnt a lot from him. But I only became aware of him and the range after I had booked the Ilkley course with the BDS.

Almost impossible for anybody to know which is the "best DSC1 provider" I doubt many people have any experience of more than one!

+1 for Paul and Corinium - great testimonials = http://www.coriniumrange.com/testimonials/

Mine following (and I did indeed pass):

Having completed my Level 1 two weekends back, I can thoroughly recommend the course with Corinium. Paul was immensely helpful from start to finish, talking me through via phone last year and most patient when I deferred to the February course. The manual was sent several months before the course, giving plenty of time to read, digest and complete a first run through of the questions. Not having seen or practiced the DSC1 deer target, Paul gave opportunity for me to attend the range for a walk through several weeks before the course. The direction and joining instructions were clear and simple and the course location at the Rural Innovation centre both a comfortable and highly positive learning environment, with the homemade cakes a most delicious and welcome added benefit. The course delivery by Paul was outstanding, relating to the class as only “one of us” can, balancing clear and straight forward best practice instruction with real world experience and a small measure of off-topic discussion for added interest. The purpose built range facilities for the shooting test and safety walk around test are also excellent, with the over-head cover on the firing point most appreciated during inclement weather. All in all, an immensely enjoyable and well delivered course with a consummate professional. If I don’t pass any of the DSC1 elements first time, it won’t be due to Paul's outstanding instruction or the course as a whole. Thanks Paul
