Something else that most people (and lawmakers/police) do not want to understand is that modern cars have far better features compared to only a few years ago. And the fact that certain cars have superior performance (safety, braking etc) than others, so my 100 mph can often be safer than someone else's 60 mph.
Yes but although your car may have improved the human body and its reaction times haven't improved and with busier lives and more distractions reaction times are often slower. You hit a child at 50mph in a new car or an old car and they're still gonna end up dead.
Hit a child at 40 mph - 95% chance of death.
Hit a child at 30 mph - 50% chance of death.
Hit a child at 20 mph - 5% chance of death.
Then why do these dummies ride their push bikes against the traffic on the wrong side of the road increasing any collision velocity by doing so?

Not pointed at you personally or at anyone in particular come to that, but safer for who?
Yes I agree that you as the driver and your passenger might be safer in these big new "safe as houses" or "built like tanks" motor cars with all their new built in safety features. However rather than thinking that way why not sit back and think for a minute or two about this possible/hypothetical scenario - You are driving along when a child unexpectedly runs out from between a couple of parked cars or vans directly in front of you. He/she has just got out of school and is excitedly rushing home for maybe his/her's 7th, 8th or 9th birthday and party thinking about nothing else but that party he or she is about to enjoy - Yes he/she has been taught the Green Cross Code but there is only one thing on that child's mind at that particular moment and that is the party he/she is about to enjoy, all thoughts of the Green Cross Code have gone out of the window.
Now there you have a situation where all of the safety factors that are built in to your modern hyper safe car are unlikely to save that unfortunate child from very serious injury or quite possibly death at just 40 MPH!
Yes, the safety features in cars has improved no end - for the driver and passengers! Your and your passenger(s) might be safe in an accident like that at 40 MPH (Or even an impact at the 60 or 100 MPH that you have mentioned) but even at 40 MPH you would still have to live with the memory of a "tragic accident" like that for the rest of your life - And your new car with all those safety features aren't going to protect you from those sort of memories!
Of course the carw ill only stop as well as the tyres fitted can grip. With the prices charged for many premium brands it is not uncommon to see cheap Asian or Chinese budget names fitted and so negating the better brakes in one simple act of saving the pennies. As one MGCC membr found out in the rain thius past summer. Brakes worked fine tyres did not and they slide down the incline all 4 wheels locked into the rear of the car in front.

Modern cars, especially the higher end ones can stop at a fraction of the distance needed by cars only a decade older. This is a massive improvement which, in combination to my excellent and very regularly updated driving skills (it is a long story, but I will tell you in person when i see you next) makes me very very confident my car will do as I ask it to do and do it very quickly.

a slight correction, over correction as it turns out, had her starting to slide the other way so we had a bit of fish tailing going on. As there was nothing coming the other was everything was fine and we never got actually close to the grass on the side of the road way Modern cars, especially the higher end ones can stop at a fraction of the distance needed by cars only a decade older. Thanks for your kind words. They really reveal a lot about you, your upbringing and your morals. Calling someone an idiot when you clearly do not have the slightest idea about them, but also have misread their post (or were unable to understand its content) is precious.Doesnt matter what technology you have...you are the issue!
your slow reactions remain the same regardless of what speed you travel at.
the quicker you are going the more ground you will cover before you even react!
if you are seriously advocating speeding then you are a iDIOT!
and one that doesn't deserve the privilege to drive let alone own and posses a rifle or shotgun!
You are wrong. But let's leave it at that. It is pointless to go on as I suspect anything more I say will be misread and/or misunderstood and scubabog will send my feo round to confiscate my rifles as I am an inconsiderable idiot, in his books. There's only a handful of folk in this country who have "excellent and very regularly updated driving skills" and I doubt you're one of them. If you're referring to some sort of driver training as in the police, well, carry on with your wishful thinking.
