Stalking fun shoot - anyone game?

SDShotSticks.webp

I had to check zero this morning and remembered about this, so I thought I'd shoot it from my twin sticks just to show you my effort!

Sako 85 6.5x55 Factory Federal 140gr SP 100M 3 shots from twin sticks in rapid succession

I didnt realise the test was to hit the dot!

You didn't read the instructions :-)

"you fire only 3 shots with the intention of hitting the black "bulls eye" with all three"

However, not to panic as it was only a bit of fun.

Pointblank - that is a good group from sticks, you should be pleased with it.

As the number of people submitting new targets on this one is falling off I was sort of plotting maybe having a new version. That doesn't mean we can't keep adding to this one but just gives those people who have shot this one something new to try. So, I might start a discussion thread for that.

everybody knows real men don't read instructions!
And with me you have an extra excuse as I whitter on for about 4 pages before I get to the point. If you'd read all my instructions you'd have got an degree in English by the time you'd finished.

Manged to get out for and hour, and have a go! Three shots off the Landy bonnet, using a bipod, at 100 yds.

Sorry its not a black dot, but it's what I use for zeroing.
Dry, no wind, 2 degrees c, 100 yds,.243 Remington Accutip 75g, Blaser R93, Jet z mod, Swarro z6i,(x18) my usual foxing set up.

Thought I’d give it a bash, printer is gubbed so made my own “SD Spot” target

Weather was pretty dreadful today, horizontal snow at times with quite strong gusts but I needed to check my .270 prior to a hind outing this week

Set up target @ approx 130 yds (Cant really see it agaist the snow)

Results Below:
(1 pence piece taped on for reference)

1[SUP]st[/SUP] Group (Middle) : Rifle straight out cabinet, prone at 130yds with 130 grain Federal factory ammo. Pattern more open than I like but it’s a real life stalking situation here, lying in snow and strong L to R hand side wind, still a deer in the larder all the same

2[SUP]nd[/SUP] Group (Top) : I moved in closer to 100yds with my sticks, wind a bit stronger.
First two shots almost touching, never before had that consistency on sticks and really surprised myself! Seemed to be puling to the right but the wind really didn’t help, still no excuses…

3[SUP]rd[/SUP] Group (Bottom) : This time it was my .243 rifle straight out cabinet, moved back to prone at 130yds with 100grain Federal factory. I’m laughing looking at this, I can see my pattern developing as I tried to compensate for the wind…another shot and I’d be on target :D

Cheers

3 shots, 100 yds, prone, shooting at night with the aid of a mate holding a lamp!

Clean barrel - "patchout" and "accelerator", followed by methylated spirit on a patch to remove residue, then a few dry patches.

Sako 85 S/S in .243 cal, 6x42 S&B Scope, MAE T12 Moderator, Snipersystems Bipod

100gn Sierra SPBT homeloads - 37gns H4350, COAL 2.670 (20 thou off lans), CL 2.036, CCI Primer, Federal Brass.

Needed a click to the right in the end, but I'm not unhappy with it! :D

Good shooting Bunny.

Its nice when it works out, it would be better if all the groups were that size though. I shot this at 100yds off a coat on the bonnet of the landy, its only 1/4inch, the other groups I shot were bigger though...

well that's ****ed on my fireworks Tom haha :D

The other 2 I shot with that load were 0.8", if that makes you feel better. I should really try and shoot of a solid rest or sand bag just to see if its me or the rifle / load.

Well I finally got around to trying this out last week with my .243.

Straight out of the cabinet after having a pull through 100yds off a bipod. Will try it a few more times to check consistency but it would equal a dead deer or foxy!!

Cheers

What we gonna do about that "1st shot" Mr. Stratts??

Cheers!

I'll try it again it may have just been my wonky eye!!

This was my 1st ever go on a range at the SD shoot straight out of the bag so I know it's fairly capable. The two 9's were the simulated highseat on a bench off my elbows which I found tricky all day tbh!!

And I was nervous as hell!!

First shot at 350m but the target went out of sight before I could fire the next two in the group , the tip of the knife shows the first shots impact with my glittery brick 308 with rainbow trajectory
