I was on a litter pick yesterday....lots of bottles, cans, and, yes; McDonalds litter. I think McDonalds should do their bit and print vehicle reg on wrappings etc at the drive through....pretty simple idea and pretty simple to implement. Rupert

Prolly risk averse, imagine the payout for an offender getting clipped?

The countryside is no better, it really grinds my gears to see the amount of bail wrap, orange mineral tubs, dead sheep, rolls of fencing wire and rusting machinery the litter the farms in the area I live, it's "supposed" an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, you would not dare put the wrong kind of front door or Windows in your house but lazy arsed farmers can treat the environment as thier tip is a national disgrace. They claim to be "custodians of the countryside" and sit and wait for the next income support cheque to pop through the door, make my blood boil.

It is bad over here, just returned from a trip to Holland and Germany and the contrast when we got off the ferry at this end was noticeable. They just don't seem to have the cultural problem we seem to have, either that or they're much better at keeping them clean.
I also notice how much road kill we have here compared and I find this just as unpleasant. On the same trip I saw one dead mammal (identity Unknown) in a 1500mile drive. I'd seen more than 50 dead pheasants, foxes, badgers etc within ten miles of leaving harwich....

Counted the number of dew ponds/clay borrow pits full of cr*p lately?

That's a great idea in principle, to require of all drive-throughs. Just trying to think what the downsides might be.

Cultural problem sounds closer to the mark, I remember on a school trip to Austria, we were advised to "Not litter in any way shape or form", I personally witnessed an arrest of a tourist for littering the following day.

Good idea, not so sure about simple to implement (sounds like it might involve expensive tech if done automatically), still a good idea though.

well done on the litter pick, practical action is likely to be the most effective way to get Britain tidy.

Even with a vehicle reg on everything, it doesn't prove who dropped it? Nice idea though! I hate the litter too. My kids wouldn't dare drop it. It all boils down to the up bringing! I pick it up on my usual dog walking route but I have never seen anyone else pick it up. I have deliberately left litter for 2 or 3 days just to see if anyone else picked it up. Nope. They just walk past it morning and night with the 'I didn't drop it' attitude.

That's because Germany and Holland have very little game left due to anti hunting laws

Germany also has 'Wolves Eyes' on the side of their autobahns where animals are likely to cross.
As a vehicle approaches it directs their headlights off to the side so any animal approaching the autobahn thinks it is Wolves in front of them and they turn back.
Not 100% effective but very effective non the less.

We have to keep picking up others litter out front and a lot of it is from take aways. What is odd is that the nearest one is 8-12 miles away and we are not on a main road either.

Holland maybe but there is plenty of game in Germany. I suspect it comes down more to how many roads there are and they're usage relative to the corresponding size of the countryside space around it.....

whens it dropped? I've only caught one person doing it ! who is the type that drops it why don't we hear of people getting prosecuted all my friends feel the same as many of us on here do too ,I don't actually blame the fastfood outlets its the scum bags that throw it out the window .I tapped on the offenders window I saw drop litter as he put the window down I t threw the rubbish back into the car very satisfying !

i was driving behind a delivery lorry for a regional company as it went through our village, driver chucked a handful of rubbish out of his window when he thought no one could see...... Oops. I photographed it, a picture of the back of the lorry, including reg and company details, date and time log a fired off an email to the boss of the company. I suspect that drivers day got a bit worse when he got back to base, the response I got from the email was very humble...

Just remembered in incident during the summer as I was driving along the bank towards home a black Audi overtook me on Eastern European plates anda s they passed several what I assume to be beer cans came out of the windows. As i was driving witht eh top down on the MG I can only assume their idea was to hit the MG or land them inside it. So much for the Europeans having more respect for the countryside. Cannot rememebr if the plastes were Polish or Estonian but it was one of those two.

I spent nine hours in the truck yesterday, whilst picking up a new set of bins. I was disgusted at the amount of litter along the M4, M25, M20,M26 and most of the A roads. What must all the tourists think, "that wasn't in the brochure".
Great set of bins though.
