I get badly bitten,hundreds of red spots,all gone next morning. The little devils plague me worst around the eyes and up my nose even to the stage where I couldn't squeeze off a shot due to impaired vision.However the big stand up mozzies give me bigger lumps than a 36C bra holds and really knock me about.
Was once given a repellent which you could not get on your skin,nothing came within a yard but it rotted my beret, "Agent Orange" or something equally nasty I think, was never told what it was!!

As a responsible person, of course I'd never do anything like that, though for amusement I've often considered who I'd have on the mailing list and if I had enough midges! Thing is midges die overnight in a bag and a mush smelly mess wouldn't have the desired effect. A courier might work....

Poor wee beasties, they might be irritating, but what have they done to diserve a trip to Bute house. That is a cruel and unusual punishment for a midge.
I too appear 'particularly' attractive to 'THE' midge! Some years ago I purchased a 'BEETON MIDGE JACKET' from a small family business in Scotland. I have found this to be indispensable during the 'Scottish Midge Season'. Visibility through the mesh I find to be ok for stalking, even using the binos'. Is this the same jacket that some contributors to the 'thread' have referred?

Very true it's a valid consideration but not all ways possible to get a way from the blighters. I feel sorry for the dogs too, if we are sitting looking for a beast to move they are often getting bitten to f**k.
It is a rule in general, if conditions are not nice for us then its not good for the deer movement.
Have just come back from a week on Arran, and Smidge was definitely the order of the day.
When we were in Australia a few years ago we were recommended to use Rid Plus which is a medicated Deet blend...they reckoned it is only 20% Deet which means the plasticiser doesn't rot your kit which the 100% strength does.
The guy that developed it stood in a swamp every night trying different blends and found that the 20% solution was just as effective protection as the 100% Deet and lasted more than 75% of the time...so a couple of applications of 20% dilutions lasted 150% of the time.
There are other things in it like anti bacterial to prevent bites going septic, and stuff to soothe any bites and help heal them so it can be put on after the event as well as before.
Have just looked it up to augment my 26 year old memory and found a stockist in the UK....

As long as I'm netted up ,I can put up with the odd ones that get in, BUT The Parkgate marsh Clegg, a bite from just one & I need A & E

I have a thermacell and it definatly works for me.
Also if you check out youtube it shows how to dodge the refill cost.
I have sat in high seats where i have had to give up because of the little Bar$tewards.
The thermalcell made life in the seat so nice i have seen the otherguys in a high seat over the way waving there hands trying to shift the little blighters while i had no problems definatly recomend.
Of course you only need to use on still nights as a brezze helps to keeps the buggers away also make the Thermalcell less valuable.

pointless on a breezy day but then the wind usually keeps them away
I recharge the bottle with lighter butane, costs £2 a can and fills a dozen canisters
I recharge the pads with Pyrethrin plug in refill liquid from Amazon, can get a lot more smoke out of mine when I do that
even more effective
Do you have a link to where you buy your re fillers? I like the sound of getting more Smoke!
