Hi all, tried a few night vision set ups and call me old fashioned I just prefer the traditional scope and lamp. Anyone got any opinions on best hand held lamp for foxing. I will be shooting over mountain ground with my 22-250 so good distance is essential. I just bought the new night master 1000 eclipse with adjustable mount etc. Brilliant torch but prefer hand held trigger type. If anyone interested I will sell night master at good price.

I use a nm 800 with an home made machined one piece extended bracket as all the ones I have tried are way too low.
The light from my LF 170 was the best out of all I have used but the communication can break down with a second person some times. I did have one set up on a scope for along time (and may well dust it off).

This torch is unbelievable. I didn't believe it until I went out shooting hares with a mate. He'd been on and on and on about it and yeah, whatever, we'll see. When he turned it on across one of our larger paddocks I could clearly pick up hares at over 400yds up against the hedgerow on the other side. That was about as far as we could test it because of the hilly terrain but old mate tells me it'll go way further. If there's a better one out there I'd be amazed. He runs it with a green filter.
Only problem is that they are very hard to find, most places I've looked in Aus and NZ have been sold out.

I've got a tracer 170 with there lithi-ion battery it's great and you can use it on your own if you have quad sticks but it might be a little bulky for you if your going up a mountain !!!
Also for what it's worth I havnt had any repair issues like you get it the light forces

Bugger, surely there will be a new model soon, its too good to believe they’ll jst stop making them. After I posted the above a couple of days ago I spent an hour looking for one on the web and drew a blank again from known online retailers. I’m wary of buying direct from China because of knock-offs, which caught out a mate a while ago when buying head lamps.

Personally I love the LF Blitz 240, its a beast of a thing, u can cover/scan a lot of ground fairly quickly with it, even with a filter on.
Got a old 170 too which is a cracking light but no where near the power of the 240.
My 170 is adjustable which is quite handy and might be handy on the 240 if u wanted to use it for closer lamping work (rabbits)
I also prefer old fashioned bulbs over Led lights, leds are brilliant for scope mounted as so compact and no mod glare. and great for torches as need so little power
But I think led light is too focussed and can dazzle foxes, with an old bulb u could just hold the eyes in the very edge of the beam

Oh well Odders 90% of keepers must be wrong then or maybe just careful with their kit?
They are advertised on Amazon UK. Don’t know about postage but the price wasn’t too bad.

I used a scope mounted LF 170 for 4 years, (still got it and it works) never had a spotting torch in that time so I did both with it. Dropped it loads of time out of my hand for a number of reasons.
No cracks or anything loose, changed the bulb once.
