petro/cars will have to be a dying breed.
Only if the human race carries on breeding as it has been doing.

Nissans UK investment is so much more than car assembly.
A lot of work was done to secure Nissans power r&d facilities in UK (Cranfield) which started back in 2006. This work Included agree government ev subsidys, UK wide charging infrastructure, university trials, charging standards and battery reuse options, to reduce depreciation costs. This in turn secured Leaf manufacture for the UK. All in advance of hydrogen trials as part of a long term working relationship. So much loss of face for both sides its not looking good. Where next with Honda.
If we are running out of resources and the old world model of growth is unsustainable then surely now is the time for big co-operation models of world governance that can set standards and push for global change? Something like the EU.
Whatever our position on Brexit, in this we are united: The politicians of all hues and persuasions have failed to navigate this sea change in our relationship with Europe. And that is unforgivable. As spoken previously, politics should be the art of the possible. To have utterly failed to broker anything vaguely approaching a workable deal in a two year period is utterly damning. This crop of politicians have failed muster.
I think you are quite right Hornet and Woodsmoke
Combustion engined cars are yesterdays tech with perhaps 15 years to run (a guess)
2nd hand car market is awash with cars that will last long past then
EU is restricting emissions so many bigger models are going to struggle to be sold
Nissan is probably moving production closer to its main future market - however it is very convenient to make such an announcement now and disguise a business decision as one made because of Brexit
I.e '' Not our fault Gov''
From all I've read the electric car as a vehicle for the masses is a non starter - there just are not enough of the trace elements needed for the batteries on the planet to cope with the demand and they cannot be recycled to be used again
There is a bigger and inevitable truth for which there is no current answer
1. Our current world economic models don't really work
2. To disguise their inherent dysfunction there must be continued growth and inflation
3. There are not the resources in the planet for continued growth indefinitely
At some point the wheels fall off
What would you propose, or is that it?In a word to describe the last sentence ot conclusion B......s.
Not realy.
You are expecting the imposable ...
Utter utter drivel his company Somerset Capital Management is setting up a new fund in Ireland (they have lots of overseas funds) and to make life simpler it is far easier to have an office for registration and compliance in the country where a company will trade/invest, lots of UK companies have subsidiaries overseas and each will have a registered office in each country they trade. The same Rees-Mogg that is of course said to be exploring some scale of re-locating to Dublin.
What would you propose, or is that it?
EU Expats pensions may also be frozen like it is with those in Canada etc as a small way to claw back funds to support the island.BB
Not sure what that has to do with the discussion of finite world resources and the need to find a sustainable model not based on growth?I would have walked the first week, stood my ground and said "What are you going to do now? Or are things staying the same? You want trade,we want trade, who blinks first". Our politicians and just under half that voted have no guts.
You can do this and risk the exchange rate but state pensions are not indexed linked for certain countries of domicile. As a third country it's conceivable that pensions would not be indexed linked for Europe but I would guess very unlikely with any sort of deal. If it's a private pension it will not matter but it might be worth looking at moving some to Europe under QROPS to hedge the currency risk.I think my friends in France get their pensions paid into a UK bank and then get it transferred as required.
Hang on a minute..... one minute the remainder side want a ''people's vote'' cause we in the leave camp didn't know what we we're voting for.... now ya saying we did !!!!!! You a politician by any chance as you also can't make up your mindThe country voted for this mess so no point Brexiters moaning about it now they knew what they were voting for.
Still the same old voices, the mess we are in has little to do with the referendum, but it can be blamed almost 100% on the way our so called government has gone about the move to leave the EU (or rather the way is has tried to stay in the EU in effect, but look as if we have left) the results of the referendum.
You want to blame anyone, blame the government, the government who changed the law so that in the event we voted out, had to do as we asked.
As for a pensions freeze, thats also an easy one, if you stay here you get a full pension, if you move abroad you get less, seems an easy choice to me to me ?
Were it me making that decision it would be a little different.
Neil.
Nope. It's Brexiteers constantly saying they knew what they were voting for so presumably they knew this mess was coming. One of the reasons the rest of us voted to stay was because there was no credible proposition on the table. Nearly three years in and still no proposition.Hang on a minute..... one minute the remainder side want a ''people's vote'' cause we in the leave camp didn't know what we we're voting for.... now ya saying we did !!!!!! Funnily enough ''or not really funny would be a better term to use'' I did vote leave knowing that all this shambolic fiasco would happen, as neither main stream party wants out from the gravy train they're all dipping they're bread into..Nope. No idea but I do know there will not now be a so-called "peoples vote" as an option to deal with this embarrassing mess. Good news then for Leavers albeit the compromise deal I feel sure May will push over the line does nothing to float my canoe. Why is this post number 1537 when the 'New Posts' page says we've reached (and stuck at !) 2K ? - Just asking !
