Not that I have tried one, but I doubt Foxes taste as good as deer.

Just had a good venison feed up tonight!

i do like a bit of foxing, get out with a mate and the night goes in a flash

Added bonus is if he misses you’ve got at least 6 months reminding him and vice versa unfortunately

Yes, also depending on what you do is expensive too. I forget about cheap shooting from time to time, but then when I rediscover rabbit shooting with the 22 or a bit of pigeon shooting it reminds me that I get just as much enjoyment from the shooting which is virtually free, close to home, and much less work... not to mention many more chances to pull the trigger.

The chaps on you tube bait an area with peanut feeders before having a stint with air gun and get very good bags .
I’m into most field sports ,fishing ,BOP,terriers and all the shooting disciplines so getting fed up doesn’t come into it .
Luckily I’m at the stage in my life where others are earning me money and I can do all these things plus it’s done for free on permissions earned over the years .
If your getting fed up mate then maybe golf is for you lol.

You're spoilt in the UK that you have deer in season all year. Here in Norway, roebucks kick off the year 10 th august, after that it's reindeer, all roedeer, red deer and elk until 23rd December, and then that 's it for another year.
I like winter foxing and there is beaver hunting in springtime.

I do agree that we are very lucky here with our long seasons. I was lamenting to a US friend a while back about how they can have pistols, semi auto rifles and what not and he pointed out to me that whilst they can have pretty much what they want gun wise it is limited mainly to range use for all but 2-3 weeks of the year because their hunting seasons are so short.

A few years ago when I was trying to get into stalking this would really of wound me up! Im sure you can find some help if its that much of a chore.
I sometimes find it less enjoyable when theres pressure from the landowner or were seeing tree damage and I'm having unsuccessful outings though.

Golf ?! I am with Sir Winston who said that it spoiled a good walk

Not fed up but I sort of understand where you are coming from. I shoot less deer than I do other species, mostly through necessity in terms of control. The deer are not really an issue for us, so shooting them is primarily so I can eat them. When I want more food, I shoot. Relatively speaking, shooting deer is a bit of a ballache but I still enjoy it but not as much as other forms of shooting.

I would certainly rather go rabbit shooting or squirrel shooting or fox shooting or sit in a hedge as dusk arrives to shoot crows coming in.

It is almost the little and often versus the big one off hit. I always opted for the specimen hunting aspect of fishing regardless of the species. I was more interested in pitting wits against the bigger fish and did not need the frequent feedback of multiple small fry hits. I could never understand how maggot drowners could sit there and endlessly catch 2oz roach to fill a bag. For me, shooting is more like the match scene in angling. Ironically, fishing for me is more like the deer stalking scene.

Each to their own.

Variety always good although not convinced that foxes are ‘less work’. Got a problematic vixen at the moment who’s taking up a good few hours of ‘snooze time’ but have to admit to quite enjoying the challenge.

Unlike Border i’m Probably a bit too old to be out ‘beaver hunting’ these days :p

When I was a young man I loved a bit of Beaver hunting. Used to go foxing with a certain young lady and also used to stop earths with her during the hunting season. Alas I am too old now to hunt Beaver anymore but memories are great, and we still have a good laugh about it 45 years on. when I see her.
Still just about stalking deer though.

Good heavens when I was a young man growing up in Torquay, I loved the summer “Beaver” hunting season.

There was always a lot of Beaver around, mainly the European type. They were always found on one of our lovely beaches, and were not too difficult hunt, often giving themselves up! Forget peanuts, a bottle of Bacardi would tempt the more reluctant European Beaver.

I once bagged three for a weekend..............Oh happy days! ;)

I did wonder how long it would be before the beaver jokes started. Was out snow ploughing when I posted and some of the replies made me chuckle. Life seems better after some sleep. I dont know if beavers get mange? But they're definetly less Hairy now then when I was a boy :-|
Smelly yeti, I'm too old as well. The wife is from Elgin so I wouldnt want to be caught on the prowl :scared:

I find that inviting people out (assuming you have the relevant permissions) can add enjoyment. Especially if they are a keen novice. Some of that enthusiasm may rub off on you>

I must admit I get a greater amount of enjoyment out of watching a friend stalk on the estate, [especially a relative novice] than stalking myself. I did however favour more experienced companions when beaver hunting.
