The Norman Clark follow up

I did mean to post this a few days ago when received. I find it wonderful that a company would willingly reply and offer emailed advice especially to an infidel from the colonies.
Thumbs up for NC Gunsmithing.

I have just spoken to Norman and we have decided that it is possible to convert a Parker Hale to this calibre. Parker Hale made a rifle called the African Magnum, one of the chambering’s for this was 375 Holland and Holland which is quite similar to the 10.3x68. The base is a standard magnum which means that it is the same as the 375 H and H, but you require the magnum bolt for this as it has a larger bolt face cut into it for the larger diameter. The action on the African Magnums was specifically cut away both in length and width to allow for correct feeding with these large calibres. Parker Hale also manufactured an entirely new bottom metal and magazine follower for the African Magnums. To sum this up you can use a standard Parker Hale however it is hours and hours of work to do this conversion (Norman has done many before), the easiest option for you is to find an African Magnum in Australia and use it as a donor, it will be far easier for you. We do have some of the parts to do a conversion such as the Magnum bolts but unfortunately these are licensable parts so we cannot ship you one, we do not have any magnum followers or bottom metals at all. Sorry I can’t be of more help than that, I hope it has answered your question and that you have somewhere to start looking.

It’s a great shop and fount of knowledge - I’ve only had sage, thoughtful advice which has saved time (and therefore money) any time I’ve needed it.

Excellent gun shop and always a Bee line to Norman Clark's stand at a show. Also charge sensible prices and nothing is too much trouble for them. Also v v good rifle builders.

He is indeed good. I tried to purchase small pistol primers for my Hornet from him at the last Phoenix Meeting and he refused to hand them over until he had seem my certificate that proved I own such a rifle.

Norman rebarrelled a Sako L691 in 25.06 with a Krieger, refinished the stock and bedded it for me in 2006 and it is still a tackdriver. Excellent workmanship and service.

I found Norman does tend to have his only version firearm legislation, which can be a pain and wrong
I don't blame Norman for approaching the sale of reloading components with caution and dilegence, especially when the punter looks well dodgy as no doubt I do!

In truth I was impressed by his approach which serves to demonstrate we probably need the same approach from many other RFD's as part of a drive to put our house in order and self police for want of a better term.

I don’t believe I’ve ever been “well dodgy” in my life however I’ve been using Norman Clarks for many years, having brought rifle barrels, ammunition (sec1 & 2) and various sec 5 items.

Norman did some work for me years ago, first class man. There was another good rifle smith in B'Ham but I think Bob Harvey will be retired now. Last time I saw him he was building a double .577. He converted a Manton .303 single shot hammer rifle to a 7x57 which I bought and used for years.

Hello Graham
I don’t think Bob Harvey has packed up yet, he was working at Garlands Shooting grounds. He did a refurb job on Browning via DT for John Pegg.
