Gun ,knifes ,bats , cars , don't kill people kill people and correctly vetting nutters just helps to keep the stupid fools away for the tools that can kill innocent after all if there was someone that you or I knew and that had a gun and they were off the track would't you say something ! I know I would . if one was stopped by my actions that could = many will see old age as is there right.
As it is ours to hold a cert after the paperwork hopefully has been done corretly .

As per Topscots they need to find a better way of Not letting guns find a way into the nutters hands and by Christ the USA has more that most .

I watched a short series or documentary not to long ago where a footballer put himself behind bars to experience inmates day to day life. One young lad I think may have had little family but in getting to know him & several others they could see the US has little if nothing for mental health support & mostly end up in prison where reform is of no use when it's the propper kind of diagnosis/support etc that is required.
A better assessment & a Doctors report would be good to highlight from the beginning of any possible issues.

Without wanting to start a fight, the assumption over here seems that our cousins over the pond have a bit of a cavalier outlook on selling firearms, a bit like if you have a fist full of green, you can have a fist full of firepower, no questions, why is state law not unified across the country?, after all it supposed to be one country isn't it?

It appears to me that people, including the government over there simply think life is cheaper than elsewhere. Why else is it so easy for unsuitable people to access firearms?

There was a very unsuitable chap I knew. he was so dangerous (lack of safety) and his personality was very odd, as well as being an alchaholic. I did the decent thing and of the few people that knew it was me all agreed a tragedy was averted.

I expect we would all do exactly that, as we want to retain what we have and have a good moral outlook for our fellow countrymen and women. The American s are concerned about the 'thin end of the wedge'. They have seen what happens elsewhere and they have a RIGHT to bear arms. Were I in their shoes, I would be shouting first about illegal guns and then accept changes to provide some screening of applicants for guns. They must do what they want we shouldnt interfere.
Some 3000 people are killed an injured (seriously) every year here by road accidents - many people including the Police accept this as inevitable. it isnt. But tell me, I have read on here that 2 people died as a result of firearms misuse last year (detailed circumstances unknown) which would you focus on for additional legislation ?

I believe the majority of those sad deaths evolve from accidents with children, whereby they stumble across a self defence pistol in their parents bedroom drawer.

Rather worrying that parents when organising a play date for their kids, one of the first questions is “are there any guns in the house?”

Client in the US a while ago told me he had to have an armed guard with him when making someone redundant as some of them are allowed to carry concealed weapons  Scary stuff.

God knows where you would start as the Mossberg pump action is marketed as “the home defence” selling over a million a year!

Exactly that!
Since I passed my bike test years ago I've seen many changes added & added to make a bike licence more difficult to obtain through age restriction, engine size & horsepower allowances.
As yet I've never seen a dangerous bike parked!
It's only when you've the wrong person on one, a driver not looking properly or a combination of both. The injuries are far worse on a bike normally which keeps so many more alert.
On the other hand if your family can afford the insurance you can drive almost whatever car you please, fill it with mates & crack on into the new world of Bluetooth, CD changers, air con & WOAH! That was a close one!!
If all things were genuinely equal there would be an engine capacity/age restriction on cars in the same manner & a limit to one passenger for a time.

You get what you wish for.
I spent 8 years in the states in the 80-90"s and this was not happening JUST normal violence gun crime was the issue then. Now with social media etc the world has changed a lot but as we all know the rest of the world cannot so easily access serious equipment as is possible there with the outdated Constitution that exists and as it is dogmatically held up by many citizens these atrocities will continue. I agree with their right to keep etc but I see a need to rethink it somehow for the 21"st century.

Guns ,good reason!! , should be same as uk law , provide a good reason and access to ground or shooting establishment etc ,no problem, semi auto what for ?(sorry) We as responsible !!! Uk gun owners provide good reason we apply and give a reason then we have no problem ,gun ,ammo authorised end of story ,ak47 Style gun for deer stalking no ! for the range etc provide some certification, grounds for ownership good reason land club form to actually own ,AND USE !! Collector dealer etc no problem .Right to bear arms etc I agree but at least have a justified reason to process your ownership and right to bear arms

I am on the last few days of a 2 week holiday to the USA. Since I have been here there have been 3 “mass shootings” all with military style weapons AK47 and AR15s. If these shootings took place with bolt actioned 5 shoot mags there would be many more people walking around today than 2 weeks ago. You just have to go north of the border to Canada where mass shootings are almost unheard of. It is almost impossible to get a military self loading rifles there. There is licensing system similar to the rest of the democratic world where licenses are given where it can be shown the the applicant has a reason to possess a particular firearm - hunting, target shooting etc not just because they can have one. People kill people but it is naive in the extreme to think that almost unlimited access to all types of firearms designated to be used on the battlefield isn’t a major factor in the number of gun deaths here. IMO the UK way is way over the top ref acquiring with asking for each new rifle like begging. If you are deemed to be OK for one then changing or buying another for a different purpose ie foxing should be allowed with much less fuss with maybe a maximum number to be held as a basic right with extras on application with suitable justification (Africa calibres).
