Tikka value? (M55)

Hi guys, toying with the idea of moving this on for another project but in truth I quite like it. Bought it in immaculate condition a few years ago that someone had squirrelled away in hiding. I shoot maybe one or two roe with it a year and maybe one crow so I doubt I’ve put 100 rounds though it. Any ideas what rifle and moderator together would be worth? Caliber is .22-250. There’s one scratch to RHS of the stock near the butt but otherwise in vgc.


May well end up keeping it but trying to establish what it would be worth. Really well built gun and I quite like the fact that they’re not in production any more. But at the same time I’m not doing a lot of stalking or vermin control.

Get it rebarrelled in a cartridge better suited to your intended use. Short action, so 243w, 6.5 CM, 260 R, 7-08R, 308w etc possible.

No idea on value but it’s a gorgeous rifle.
I’ll echo borders comments re getting it rebarrelled, worth considering seeing as you like the rifle.

Like @PKL said, don't sell it! "They don't make 'em like that anymore", and it's true. I've got an M55 in .308 which I had Riflecraft (OK, I know...) put a Border cut-rifled barrel on, shoots extremely well.

Agree.....unless you have to of course. Took my M55 Deluxe .243 for a walk this afternoon. I know I'm daft but it was the first rifle I bought, back in 1982 which must have been the end of production, rosewood caps on forend and pistol grip, deep bluing including bolt, all original. Done around maybe 500 rds I guess, and because I wanted to keep it for best, I bought a 2nd .243 (M590) that I used for around 20 years until this year, saving my original.

If I hadn't have bought T3x in 22/250 to replace an M55 sporter recently, I would have very happily had bought this one. Super, well made rifle.

Don't sell it. I have an lsa55 that I've had for 32 years. As someone else said, they aren't made like that anymore.

It doesnt eat anything and costs you nothing to keep and if you sell it its going to give you very little back in return. But that said if you keep it and dont use it whats the point so really the only way your going to get any satifaction by selling it is if you sell it to the right person who will appreciate and look after it

I have a Tikka LSA 65 in .270 ( the earlier model than your M55 ) that i bought in 1979 from Arthur Turners gunshop in Sheffield, and it is bombproof.

I’ll be inheriting an m65 within long from my father. I can guarantee you I’ll be keeping it, the smooth bolt and that crisp trigger,,just don’t get that these days!

I would keep it if I were you. They are hard to sell due to being an older model. I've had one for sale in the same calibre for nearly 2 years. There is also one for sale on the directly in the same . An honest valuation rifle only in this market would be between £200 and £300 depending on bore condition etc. Definitely worth keeping it as they are nice rifles and definitely worth more than what they currently go for on the market.

Shortage of ‘plastic’ stock options, heavy barrel, price a touch aspirational, Dropbox is a pita, people just want pics on the forum

I don’t think people go out looking for them per se, those who have them want to keep them and work in them etc

If you want too sell it for 400 send it this way.it looks a beautiful rifle.a definite keeper. They dont make em as good as that any more.your very lucky keep hold of it

Cheers for the info guys. I’m tempted to hang onto it for all the above reasons but at the same time, it’s not getting a huge amount of use.

Knowing my luck though, a couple of years down the line I’ll probably get an itch for a .22CF again so will mull it over before any rash decisions.

Out of interest, who’s a good riflesmith if I was to pop a different barrel on it? I know ‘of’ Steve Kershaw from reading on here but is there any others I should look at?

I float between Scotland and West Yorkshire so area isn’t an issue. Would probably just rfd each way anyway? Or do most people pop in?
