Brambleproof trousers.

Hi all, Anybody got recommendations for the above. I mainly want them for beating and rough shooting. I’ve got thornproof leggings but I find them a drag on your legs and I much prefer waterproof trousers ankle boots and gaiters. What’s good for you?

I have been using the Decathlon Solognac waterproof hunting trousers last year and this one for the beating and so far I am quite impressed . I find them better than my Seeland Marsh trousers , they come lined and unlined . I bought the unlined ones but wish I had now bought the lined ones , so will probably buy another pair. They have a double buttoned waist and are also elasticated on the sides. For the price it is hard to beat them.

Not cheap and maybe overkill!

Browning upland trousers are tough but not stiff.

I wear them quail hunting in blackberry Vines among tall grass.

I have some Harkila trousers which are great for a gentle paced stalk or to sit in the high seat on a cold or wet day...but much too hot and restrictive for beating speeds and distances.

Beating, I have always felt impervious to stingers and brambles etc. with a pair of Wear-Rite leggings over Northface nylon cargo zip off convertible trousers, and High leg Le Chameau or Meindl boots. The leggings have a smooth lining and have belt loops and poppers all down the sides

I found the Wear-Rite leggings much more practical than overtrousers in the way of comfort by not overheating or dragging on your legs, and by giving easy access to your pockets or to your flies for a piddle. Put on and take of without having to take off your boots, and the leggings don't get covered in mud on the inside...

I haven't been able to find Wear-Rite gear recently so maybe they have ceased trading...but their leggings have been the answer for me for the last 18 or so years.

Alan

ps Thanks to this thread I was prompted to try harder to track them down, and I have just found Wear-Rites number....02088 007767 and ordered another pair of their Milair lined leggings...still only £17.00 + £6.00 postage....excellent value. The big advantage of buying direct from the manufacturer...

All these look like a serious bit of kit.

Not cheap but I like the Harkila leather fronted trousers. Great for added protection when on the pigs abroad and for stalking in areas with bramble in UK. Disadvantage is they are dry clean only but I ignored that and washed on delicates. Came out fine but the leather stiffened up and need plenty of oil to get back the suppleness

Now you know why I slept with one eye open. Hang on a minute, I could only open one eye.

Hi, On your recommendation I put the Solognac trousers on my Christmas list and lo and behold my wish was granted. Very pleasantly surprised by the quality and the fit. Haven’t worn them yet, not cold enough. Many thanks for telling me about them, Regards Skye.

I have been using the Stoney Creek tundra from Ed at Edinburgh Rifles for beating on the fells and out hunting. Fantastic

I bought a pair of these before Christmas with matching jacket:

I wear them for general shooting and when hedgelaying. They are bramble proof but will probably eventually get holed by hawthorn (though TBF not much can keep out hawthorn except thick leather), but they are rip-stop fabric so they shouldn't tear.

They had the Percussion trousers mentioned earlier in the thread as well. They are thicker and heavier and really tough. They'd be great for beating but they are quite stiff and noisy so they wouldn't be my first choice if they're going to be used for stalking as well.
