As title says, fancy a Ruger 10/22 for some bunny bashing, I have an Anschutz at the moment but just fancy something different.
just wondering what your thoughts are and if anyone has one or what your preference would be and what scope your using.
cheers.

I'm in the same situation..... I'm looking at a custom ruger 10/22 with match barrel etc. As the standard ones are naff....

Yeh I’ve been looking at a couple of modified ones myself ie thumb hole stock and upgraded barrel and trigger.
i know they are expensive but seen a lot of reviews on you tube.

Only a couple of years ago I had a choice of a Marlin 990 or a 10/22. I chose the Marlin and it is very good. Still had to work on the trigger though.
I had a 1022 years ago and it was fine but the trigger was bad. I sorted it out and it made a fine rifle of it.
I recently shouldered a 1022 walnut stocked version in a shop and it sat on target similar to my Marlin which was pleasing.

A new one I shot a few years ago seriously needed some running in and if you do get one run them dry for they soon gum up from combustion material.

I've had one for 4 years. It was a standard version.

Other than for 'time & precision' shooting competitions , I can think of nothing that I can recommend about them.

For field use i'd sooner have a bolt action any day

I've had a couple, 0ne a real custom job, neither were any good accuracy wise. Perhaps I was just unlucky but I could never understand why the biggest selling 22LR in history could shoot so badly, or why anyone would buy a rifle then virtually replace everything about it!
Sorry if I offend 10/22 owners but that's my thoughts on the 10/22.
As I've said before the most accurate semi-auto 22LR I've ever had is the CZ512.

That's why I went with the Marlin. The 1022 I had years ago had a good barrel but I know of many with dodgy barrels. One had a tight spot/ring just ahead of the chamber!

I think the 1022 has done more harm in putting many off 22 automatics than any other! Well....there is the 597 too!

By the time you've changed the barrel the trigger the stock and anything else that takes your fancy you'll be down more than the price of a new Annie 1710 and it still won't shoot as well, quit while you're ahead.

I have a 10/22 Deluxe- no barrel band- manufactured in 1982
Bought 8yrs ago to deal with a large rabbit colony where repeat quick shots were the requirement.
I was expecting accuracy to match my bolt action CZ.
I was disappointed.
Generally ok out to 50 yards but beyond not so, but it did the job.
Now it has an ATI folding stock and comes out only for informal target shooting- and always brings a smile to my (and any other users) face so a curates egg if I'm honest
Oh, and thanks to Muir, I overcame feed issues by avoiding subsonic ammo

Same as the one I had since new. Other than replacing the bolt buffer pin with a delrin version to get rid of the ‘clank’ on cycling, and a bit of stoning on the trigger it’s been faultless and not bad accuracy wise.

Now passed on to my son-in-law for him and the grandkids to have fun with and I’ve bought a S&W MP15-22 (Performance Center model) and that is a tack driver! It’ll handle any ammo, is really compact with the collapsed stock, and the only drawback is the amount of rounds that are likely to be consumed at a sitting. If you don’t mind the AR look, then I’d deffo recommend one. :thumb:

I was lucky enough to be i the right place at the right time and picked up a Rimfire Magic RM12 for the price of a new CZ...... 12 inch carbon barrel, Rimfire Magic block and action, trigger and a thumbhole stock. Weighs 2/3 of a nun's fart, accurate enough for a semi, shoots off the hand like a dream. I've got a Bushnell Trophy Xtreme 2.5-15x50 that goes on it when it isn't wearing the Yukon Photon IR.

Ruger 10/22s I feel are a bit like '90s Vauxhall Novas. They both do their main job tolerably well but you really get them so you can buy lots of bits to put on them. Which might or might not make them perform better. And if that's your thing, fill your boots.

Had a 10/22 deluxe a few years back and at the same time had a Voere semi auto.
The Ruger failed to feed regularly, had a terrible trigger and poor accuracy
The trigger on the Voere wasn't great but it never failed to feed and was very accurate.
That Krico in the picture above uses an action that looks suspiciously like the Voere.
A CZ or a Tikka T1X is a far better choice than a 10/22

Cheers
