6.5x55 options/long range rig

.260 rem in a short action is no good as long for caliber bullets like 140g eld-m take up to much power capacity if loaded to magazine length,

I use 140gn bullets in my .260 Rem. Loaded to .010" from the lands and they fit into an AICS magazine no problem.

Yes that's ok but just think if you could load longer you would have more capacity for power and the shank of the bullet would be above the shoulder junction so you would be no problem with donuts.

I picked up a Sauer 202 Match in 6.5x55, it would appear to be a Wolverine stocked action 600g 2 stage trigger with a heavy 700mm barrel, best I have managed for 5 shot group is 1.5 inches at 600 yards, Yoxter range. My load for this is 130 Sierra TMK 49
gns N560 Lapua brass 3.15 OAL Fed 210M primer 2950 fps. I have the same calibre in a sako 75 hunter for stalking. I dabbled with a 6.5CM but felt it offered no advantage over the 6.5x55.

Would love a Sauer wolverine or the str200. I have a 202 in the swede and it’s great. Such a shame it seems it is being dropped by some manufacturers

You could look at ssg3000

I had similar conundrum and have elected to buy a second hand ssg3000 (the version of the STR200 manufactured by Sig Sauer) ans put this into a Vision chassis
I can put any barrel I want on the action in a few minutes and the mag will accept and feed anything from 22-250 through to 30-06

Lovely trigger, super solid action and easy barrel change

The current barrel is on a 260 Ackley the next with be a Swede

Is the swede available in Sako trg? I’ve been looking but can’t seem to find one
There’s always the Schultz & Larsen Tactical in 6.5x55
Not fired, or even seen one but if they are anything like their other rifles it’ll be a cracker.

Do you machine / chamber barrels for it yourself Andy or use factory products? (I do still fancy one of these rifles.)

Hi Laurie

Yes I buy in barrel extension pieces from a specialist manufacturer in Denmark and machine my own barrels to suit

Currently have factory 308, and two 260ai for testing purposes

I believe that Stuart Anslem is bringing in Benchmark barrel extensions and machining barrels for Ssg 3000 as well

I’ve also enquired with a company in Scandinavia ( Vapensmia ) who manufacture their one barrels for the system - they use Heym, Walther, Sauer and Blaser barrels and are quite cost effective IF export issues can be overcome, and they will supply me, this will be a good source of 6.5/55 chambered barrels

I’m waiting on response having emailed a week or so ago and cv19 I am not rushing for a reply 😄

I had the same conundrum a while back, had a slot for a 2nd swede in a more target orientated set up nothing fancy just a decent stock 24" heavy barrel; the options for the swede off the shelf were and are limited so ended changing to creedmoor. No real regrets as it is a cracking calibre, as is the swede.

Have been considering which I'd keep if all goes pop and i have to downsize due to financial reasons, it would be the swede!

Link to my own SSG3000
