I've done alot of research into chessies, spoken to plenty of people.
And then gone ahead and booked a pup from a litter due next year.
I think any badly behaved chessies, says alot more about the owner and their training ( or lack of) than the breed.

Where are you based? I work Chessies, my current bitch is strong, bold, brave and loves sitting on the sofa. I know many of the breaders and if you want you can come for a walk with me and mine to see her in action foreshore, pheasant or deer.Anyone got firsthand experience of breeders or can advise for this breed? Any to avoid? I know the gene pool is not huge in the UK and keen to get a solid animal. Thanks.

They are good lines many have made really good workers, training is not like for a lab it is much more negotiation. They get it quick and get bored quicker, but they never forget. The Club is run by Molly Barker in Doncaster, Chesapeake Bay Retriever Club – Bringing Chesapeakes in the UK together training tip, competitions, and support. Looking forward to hearing how you get on.Thats very kind of you but I am well south of you unfortunately. Beautiful picture, lovely dark chessie.
I have met a lady who is breeding her first litter this year, her bitch is mainly Arnac lines, hopefully will get our pup in November all going to plan. Really good pedigrees both sides so very happy and have met mum to be. Owner plans to use Next Generations Chesepi Range Rider (IMP USA) mid July for stud. She sent me a picture of him today actually. Viscious brute![]()

The problem is we don’t live in chesapeake bay, and I don’t know of any market gunners these days, conditions are a lot harsher over there, in the UK a Labrador is more than adequate for 99.9% of wildflowers. I’ve seen a couple of them as my mate has them, nice dogs and need to be doing something, one was a nice size animal and bit bolshy and the one he has now is small and is scared of it’s own shadow, seems to be more show strains about these days than good working lines, if I needed a tough retriever for lots of water work and a keepers dog then I’d be purchasing a curly coated retriever.

I was just letting you know incase someone was messing you around. I'd already seen the photo as I'm on the list for a pup out of the dog you posted, from the lady who owns him.Well, you had best ask Molly regarding the pic! I just had it sent to me on messenger.
A lot of people compare Chessies to Retrievers, but they are very different animals. I guess it depends what you are looking for.
