BASC AGM

Given the significant interest in BASC on this forum I thought forum members might be interested in the following update following BASC’s first ever online AGM this morning due to Covid-19.

BASC Council elections

Oliver McCullough was elected to the Northern Ireland seat; and Ann Mortimer and Al Gabriel were elected to the National seats.

You can watch recent interviews with Al, Ann and Oliver and all the other candidates on FieldsportsTV here:

Vice Presidents

Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP was elected a BASC Vice President.

Sir Geoffrey is the Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Shooting and Conservation and has played a key role in representing shooting and conservation interests in Westminster over the last ten years.

BASC Fighting Fund

BASC launched a new legal fighting fund that will make a significant contribution to promoting and protecting sustainable shooting and conservation in the UK.

The seven-figure fund will hold ring-fenced reserves that will enable the association to push forward with proactive legal initiatives to secure the future of shooting.

In addition, it will enable BASC to launch effective defences to disruptive legal challenges that could negatively impact our community.

BASC chairman Eoghan Cameron said: “The fund, the first of its kind, will set BASC on a new path to promoting and protecting shooting, our community and the countryside.

“This fund will allow us to further our aims and lead from the front when presented with opportunities and when facing down legal challenges.

“We are already fighting legal cases in England and Wales and there are other potential cases in the wings.

“For shooting to be heard and represented effectively in court, it must have an ability to fund legal action. Thanks to the generosity of our members and sound financial management, BASC has the means to do so.”

I’m astonished to learn that BASC didn’t have one before! How long has Wild Justice been in existence? But I guess it has to be seen as a positive move that it is implementing one now. Funny thing - a seven figure sum sounds remarkably similar to the annual savings from dropping the legal expenses insurance!

Well f@@# me after 18 months has someone at the Mill.just taken the time to read the W J manifesto and realised what could be heading in there direction.

It's not just there many dubious or even crazy decisions they come out with.

It's the complete and utter incompetence and mishandling the statements surrounding them and a complete lack of vison to anticipate the flack there next stupid decision is going to generate and even worse they seem to be completely blind sided by anything the anti's and esp WJ come out with.
If u can't even predict wot there members want wot chance with anything else

If the combined sum of all new and existing staff can not figure out how to divide cost off policy by number of members to get the price per member.
Fcuk me it really is not rocket science.
I'm pretty sure a few on here pointed out the arthimatic error almost instantly, doesn't say much for the voice.

If they're not capable of doing 1 long division sum wot chance is there off putting up a credible fight against anyone with more than a primary school education.

Possibly a more virtual agm or even committee meetings might help to get proper working shooters voices herd, most cannot just afford to take days off work and travel to meetings.
But really far too little to late

Conor; thank you for continuing to post on this forum. You will be aware how cheated many members feel by the recent decision to drop legal expenses insurance.
I am a BASC member until the end of August. It will take a lot to persuade me to renew my membership (or to rejoin in the future, if I don't renew).
BASC must start to really fight for shooting. Wild Justice isn't going away and sooner or later they will succeed in changing some of the legislation under which shooting operates. It is time for BASC to ensure that it has the best legal representation available, and that will cost serious money. You either invest funds in protecting our interests or you will lose them through declining membership.
We don't don't join BASC for discounts on high-end shotguns or luxury cars. We want you to be an effective voice for shooting and to pick up the cudgel on our behalf. Appeasement is not acceptable, nor is making major policy changes without consulting members (i.e. by way an online EGM).
BASC is rapidly running out of goodwill (for some, it did so a long time ago). It must change if it is to remain (or become) the creditable organisation that it's members expect and deserve. There are alternatives which currently seem to better meet this criteria.

This was exactly my suggestion when I attended an AGM @ Stirlng .............................................................. WAAAY back when they had that "New " building put up. Went so far into the LOOONG grass it's taken from the 13TH of June 2015 to come to pass.:banghead:

Congratulations to Ann, Al and Oliver on their election. Lets hope that they can make a difference and that its not too little too late. Surely by now Conor BASC may have learned how detached it has become from its membership and how deeply disappointed the shooting community has become with its leadership?

I could be wrong but there seems to be a circulating pool of people who are voted on to BASC Council.
If ANYONE grasped the evident dissent, disappointment and distrust, maybe they would try and change BASC, but so far, its too far - and nothing.

Nobody would " bash" BASC if it did a creditable job on anything, anything at all. 'Bash' is intentionally perjorative. Justified criticism, maybe even vilification is more the mark. Hardly worth the effort now.

There is one phrase in the article and speech which I have to say is taken out of context but suits my thoughts on the speech - "Well I don’t know what is going on, " so says Lord Dear.
Sadly nor do we, who see BASC read this speech and wonder.

Warm words for BASC and steel shot for everyone else.
