Voting shelved on Europe-wide lead shot ban

BASC have realised the damage their stupid statements on a voluntary lead ban has done and it has spread throughout our so-called representative organisations. Trying to pull the fat from the fire like this, as others have said, just confirms they are foolish, thoughtless and trying to be efficient only closing stable doors........... Better to have said nothing - the more usual way to ignore self-inflicted failure. BASC have played with an unexploded bomb and set it off.

My unreserved thanks to the Czech's and their Government for their common sense and determination.

Ha.

Czechmate BASC.

At least someone in the world really is fighting our corner as 'The voice of (UK) shooting'. Shame they're all the way over in central Europe though, isn't it?

We may be bound by EU laws for much longer than we realise due to the complex nature of the Brexit transition period and our trade agreements with EU.

Ok. So how, please, BASC, is any trade agreement with the EU going to affect pigeons that I shoot that eat or the pheasants that I shoot where that "bag" is shared between beaters, pickers-up and, finally, the guns? And therefore none is consumed outside of myself, my family of an other individual members of the shoot and their family? Or any rabbits and hares ditto?

Or, to get an answer by asking the question another way, who directly, as a shooter or as a syndicate will be affected, and in what specific and exact circumstances of scenario by any trade agreement with the EU? Please BASC post the answer on this thread to that direct question.

The UK may decide to continue to adopt/mirror EU laws around the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals Regulations as part of trade agreements with the EU.

There are huge implications for UK businesses around Brexit and trade on chemicals.

See the following:

And see here:

So future ECHA proposals around lead ammunition may continue to be applied at UK level or even devolved government level by parallel legal changes.

Whilst we are currently fighting broadened restrictions relevant to wetlands there is another salvo coming from ECHA on a total lead ammunition ban.

I may be being "stoopid", but surely if the ban has been shelved in the EU, BASC and the other 8 organisations can just do an about face on the matter, no harm no foul?

'Fighting ?'
I bet youre getting lubed up and assuming the position already .
What are you fighting in wetlands ? Anything to do with shooting ?
Leaving the EU is an opportunity to propose sensible measures related to shooting and establish a conservation stance - lead is already lost and without a lot of 'truth'.

BASC is of course at the forefront of news in Europe.....
I seem to remember posting this story on this forum on the 22nd July...

15.07.2020 Deadline: Ban on lead in ammunition postponed at EU level. The voting procedure was "ended without result" and postponed to September
+++ July 15, 2020 Update +++ The Czech Republic resisted the ECHA's written online voting procedure – which we also consider highly undemocratic – and the overly broad and generic definition of wetlands.

That was the point: on July 15, 2020, the end of lead shot – possibly not only for hunting in and around wetlands – could be decided at EU level. This means that the already existing regulations for water bodies would be extended to wetlands and, by definition, temporary puddles would also become wetlands.

Lead ammunition and shotshell pellets

Please try and keep up BASC on what happens in the world of shooting and country sports around Europe. You make yourselves look embarrassing.
