Project idea: "Gralloch Assistant" - safe and hygenic knife holder during suspended gralloch

Whether I gralloch on the ground or suspended, I periodically put one or both knives down. Usually onto a clean plastic bag I carry with me for that purpose. Once all knife-work is completed, knives can be wiped/rinsed before return to scabbards.

During suspended grallochs, I sometimes move around the carcass and then discover the knife is on the other side and not immediately reachable. Not a train-smash, but it got me thinking...

If you take the idea of a kitchen magnetic knife holder, shrink it down, smaller than your knife sheath, give it a velcro strap like a watchband Gralloch_mate.webp, then you could have a knife minder lashed to the same bough from which your deer is hanging.

Naw that wasn’t rubbish drawing that was shocking, you should be banned. This is a slow Saturday and I’m bored. :coat:
Not sure I could be assed. I tend to do like you and keep it on a clean bag. But if I leave it on the far side I will just walk around.
But the main reason is I wouldn’t do it is because I am such an idiot, I would leave the knife attached to the tree.
on a positive note I would at least be able to find it again.

How about this design tweak: embed a diamond stropping stone on the rear face of the block. That will deliver added frictional purchase to keep magnetic block anchored to sheath in transit, offers emergency sharpening option in field.

Some beekeepers keep there hive tool hand by having a large magnet in there pocket.
Why not just have two sheaths on your belt, a dirty one and a clean one.
