Sending In-Fur to AGHE to have back for own consumption

Hi,
What are the rules around sending an in-fur carcass to the AGHE to have back for my own consumption in regards to having a hunter Number and registered as a food business? Do I need either if I’m having it back myself?

I would guess you just need your trained hunter number to sell to the dealer anyway , and if its for YOUR own consumption then that's it ,,, different if your selling it on , but may be wrong ??

I took an in fur carcass to Ben rigby game and they butchered it for me, I don't have my trained hunter as of yet but wasn't a problem
Hmm looks like we have two different views on this, Many Thanks

perhaps other members might have any insight?

If Ben Rigby had been inspected he may well of been in the mire for having it on the premises.
This has been done so many times and once again we have people saying that all you need is a hunter number to put deer into an AGHE. Rubbish. You MUST be a registered food business as well as having a hunter number. It's not a new thing either. At least 5 years ago this was required. Wanted: - Deer carcass

It was for personal consumption they did the relevant butchering for me and I paid for it, not sure that's the same thing?

No, I get that. The fact is that he had a possibly diseased carcass on the premises that could have contaminated his whole site! We get a trained hunter number because we're deemed competent in inspecting dead animals and not moving diseased ones. Imagine if the deer you shot had Foot and mouth and you dropped it off at Rigby's. No head, no feet and no gralloch, so much harder for them to know that it had a notifiable disease.

Yeah that makes sense, it had the head and feet attached just not the pluck

Ok, but I'm sure that you get what I mean.
Get on You tube and learn how to do it yourself or put a shout out on here for someone local to show you the ropes once lockdown is over.

how much did he charge may I ask!
And how much did he break it down shanks steaks loin or just minimal haunches and stuff? Tia.

Scott Rea you tube 32 min video is the one I use.
To be honest I’ve seen T.eddie post a lot recently and was depending on how things turn out offer him a carcass anyway as he is near me and saves me sorting it out. That said I don’t mind giving him my take on the video at sometime if he gets one himself post lockdown.

Thanks mate, yeah I've seen the Scott Rea video also, I did want to try it myself but just don't currently have the space to do it safely and cleanly ( the garage is full and I don't think the neighbors would be super happy seeing me doing it in the garden) but i am keen to learn to do it as I feel it's all part of the experience, maybe I could tag along and watch you do it one day?
