AT Tyres

I had duratracs on a ranger and not the best in the wet. Got noisy at 30k miles too so I would suggest rotating them often. Quiet considering how aggressive they are though and are quite heavily siped so decent in snow/ice. Those scorpions look more heavily siped so are probably even better in snow/ice.

I'm now watching this tread with interest as about to but a full set of new tyres on my D max , I have been looking at the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4s and all the reviews are positive and a reasonable price.

I got some Davanti terratouras on the hilux for £115 a corner and so far so good. As used by mountain rescue for what’s that worth.

Coopers at3 sport 2 on the work truck (good load carrying, surprisingly good off road towing and loaded) excellent mileage and road manners. Once snow hits (or the work site is wet n muddy) swap over to ST Maxx. They’re better than the bfg AT’s I’ve used but not a full mud tire, that said they are good and have good road manners. Seem to be plenty about online.

The best behaved tyres I ever had on my series of 6 Shoguns were the Toyo ATs. They were quiet even at top speed on the m'way and I can put my hand on my heart and say I never got stuck on them and I used to live and work in the wetter part of England. They were excellent in the wet or in slush throwing out great gouts of water I almost felt sorry for those I was. overtaking. They were aggressive looking but they also wore well = >40K miles for each set. They took me to N Scotalnd regularly, the Alps in France and Switzerland at all times of year, and did not fall apart on hot French or Andorran roads in the Pyrenees. I was well pleased. Lastly they were a lot cheaper than Pirellis - I cannot remember how they compared with BFGs or Grabbers for price.

I agree, although I eventually found the mt's would get me out in 2 wheel drive where as the at's needed 4 wheel drive.

Today I have just bought my second set of BFG for my Ford Ranger. First set did close on 50 k miles. Never really found a problem with them though. £200 a tyre hurt though.

I spend a lot of time off-road on wet grass and some chalk/flint heavily rutted tracks weekly. I tried GG AT3 but lost 3 to side wall damage (no way near as thick as my old BFGs) and one that split at the bead as I very slowly went up a granite kerb - I just couldn’t believe it but I sent it back for inspection and they said the was nothing wrong with it:mad: I watched some US videos of the Falken Widpeak AT and was quite impressed. Fitted 4 two years ago and I’m very impressed! They have not let me down off-road, are not too noisy and in the foul weather driving down to Fowey today on the M5 I was reminded just how good they are in the wet. I whole-heartedly recommend them.

Pictures show a double passenger side set of punctures on a bad day and the surprisingly not too aggressive tread of the Wildpeaks.

I run BFG AT's for most of the year for on tracks, field edges, wet grass and mud. In the late autumn I have a spare set of wheels with BFG mud terrains, which are the new version and last winter proved to be great. The large cleats do clear and grip on the MT'S but too noisy and not great on road so swap back to AT'S in the spring. Heard good reports on the Cooper tyres

I've had the BFG all terrains for a while. I think it's a newer version (KO2??). Absolutely hate them. Terrible in all terrains. No idea why they are so highly rated.

I'm probably going back to cooper again. Had the mud tyre (i think it's the STT) and while it's maybe a bit aggresive for road use, it was excellent in most other conditions. Tempted to try the ST Maxx - looks between a normal AT tyre and a mud tyre.

I'm on the STT Pro now after having the ST MAXX - I prefer the Pro in all conditions so far including on road behaviour. Once the MAXX went down to about 5mm it wasn't so reliable on softer clay-ey surfaces, would quickly fill the tread and spin.

Recently I was looking for Goodyear Duratracks 245/70/17 but they appear not to be available.
Got BFG T/A KO2 instead - also had them on my previous truck - and they are just fine for the job, unless it is deep clay/mud on a steep slope. But even Duratracks wouldn't cope there...
I consulted 'Honest John' the car journalist on AT tyres, their view was Duratracks were only marginally better that BFG - not much between them.

Just had a set of Mitchelin Latitude Cross tyres fitted to my Ranger, Very grippy on and off road and not too expensive; I’m very pleased with them.

After a terrible experience with BFG AT‘s on the highway on light snow I have switched to genuine winter tyres on my truck all year round. Best decision ever. They are very good on slippery grass/meadows, very decent in mud and of course perfect during winter. They do wear a little faster during summer onroad use though.

Hi.
Excellent Tyre. I have a set on my Grand Cherokee. Very good wet weather on the road and very good in Snow.

Believe it or not the cheapest i could get them was at the Jeep main dealer.

This is interesting
from what I can see (after a brief look) that page is based purely on reader submitted votes of their tyres rather than any objective tests... therefore not very reliable for scoring as people rarely get to use more than 2 or 3 (max) different tyres on the same car/conditions.

Equally one persons "good" is anothers "dire" as illustrated on this thread aroudn BFG K02's...
