Data theft.

I see a lot of ads still for the law firms offering no win no fee “help”

few people have publicly commented, but it seems the posts are frequently deleted if not to the law firms’ liking… I don’t like ambulance chasers but I am slightly intrigued as to a) whether Guntrader have insurance which is paying out and b) how many “victims” have successfully claimed

I think that anyone who shares the data, if they're identified, would have a very expensive experience at the hands of the Information Commissioner.

I know full well that my details were stolen - spam box went into meltdown just after the announcement with unusually ridiculous spam...

Not overly woried as my account is still registered in my old address and I never bought or sold anything on there.

I, and no doubt others, have recently received an “apology” from Alexander Andover who “owns “ Guntrader (thought that was the meerkat from CtM.com) which includes the details below wrt to compensation. I know CEL solicitors are pushing a “no-win no-fee” class case against Guntrader and it will be interesting to see if they succeed.

The ICO is responsible for determining any fine against a UK organisation that has a data breach.

For any individuals that have been affected by the Guntrader data breach, you should be able to prove a financial loss - directly attributable to the data breach - if you wish to make a compensation claim.

Many organisations, banks included, have suffered data breaches, but have not compensated individuals.

Basically, every time you register online with any organisation, you should simply expect the majority of that information to be available at some point later on the dark web. That's just the reality of having an online presence.

What on earth is the point of trying to close down Guntrader (or any other shooting-related organisation) by trying to get a small slice of a small pie by claiming "compensation" and forcing them out of business?

I guess the question is - is it too late now some of our data is out there? Does this effect the police perspective of a firearms holder (higher risk?)

I’m genuinely not sure if I need to do anything about it or simply shrug my shoulders?

regards,
Gixer

Very little of the online world is robust enough to stand a serious attack.
The companies who have not yet admitted to having a data breech, just lucky that no-one has tried yet, or they have been compromised but theyheven't realised, or they have covered it up.

A certain anti FB group dedicated to stripy nocturnal animals is currently encouraging their followers to download it, along with instructions as to how to map & harass those on the list.

As for compo claims, the no-win, no-fee lawyers seem reasonably confident of success.

If that’s the case, half of the posts on here and nearly all of Facebook must not be U.K. based!
i cant spell for toffee, but it seems odd that the quote constantly says you're not your. i would think its a way of avoiding clever people and catching the numpties

It’s this kind of stuff that makes me wonder “am I seeing this randomly or am I somehow pegged as a gun trader user and it’s targeted”! Then I disappeared down the rabbit hole of “is Facebook listening to me”!!!
Watch ‘The Social Dilemma’ on Netflix, you’ll switch off Facebook after that….
