Is BASC membership worth it?

Insurance, courses and 19% off a new hilux.

Some people seem to want organisations to fight points with no prospects of success.

Things change and you have to go with the flow. Far better to aim for the best negotiated deal you can get.
It would seem they see little success in any area then, when was the last time any point was fought? Members are being held to ransom over medical fees, increased fees came and went with no improvemnt to service provided, the steadfast no evidence no change folded. The state of the art media centre has seen little use, Chris Packham runs rings around them, they seem unaware of the existance and influence of social media. Going back further and a smaller NGO fought and won for buzzard control, and back further still the membership were advised not to attend the Liberty and livelyhood march. They are the career politicians of the shooting world

Interesting - if a tad boring - to watch a little group of fanatical anti-BASCers shouting to themselves within an online echo chamber.

Your comment , in our 'echo chamber' makes no sense, its interesting but boring ? Make your mind up !

If youre right , and we are wrong , why bother to comment at all ?
If BASC really are the voice of shooting , and are going to steadfastly stand up for shooters (in your limited opinion) why do they even need defending ?

Maybe Conor would like to let us in on how many have left BASC in the last couple of years ?
It cant be many surely....?

<BASC membership conferred> Hilux discount comes in handy as well.

BASC are not the only organisation whose membership attracts Toyota's discount.

I left BASC after two decades out of frustration at the GP cert and lead debacle. Both initiated or aggravated by BASC posturing.

Shortly thereafter I wanted to buy a Hilux. To my delight, the Toyota dealership declared I would receive the same discount as brokered by BASC on presentation of my MoleValley Farmers ID.

IMO, BASC do not speak for most of us. If Fieldsports Britain developed a shooting society arm, BASC would fold overnight. Currently I am with SGA. Good insurance, accessible legal folk, robust voice for all shooting sports.

Any more information on this please.

The clarity with which Charlie and the FieldSports Britain team research and present data on all areas of fieldsports totally eclipses anything I have seen from the established "advocates" of our sport.

Currently, they are a media group. With a huge global following!

So if they branched into shooter association advocacy as a formal shooting organisation with insured members, they would be without peer. It really would fit the "if Carlsberg made a shooting association..." punchline. At present, they are sticking to their core business. Maybe if we petitioned them...

If you are unwilling to try to fight a descision that is bad for the sport how is an organisation going to be viewed by members.
If you waste money on battles that you have no realistic chance of winning you're 1. An 1diot and 2. Reducing your chances of of winning battles that were winnable if there had been enough money left in the kitty to fight them!
The organisation will be looked at a sensible by the more intellectual members who would certainly not be impressed with their company wasting money! The lead ban being a perfect example!
If the result is nailed on don't chuck money at trying to change it. That's obvious to anyone surely?

And where was the explanation over the main duck out?

General License in Wales I believe! Packman had his butt kicked! I'm sure that @Conor O'Gorman could expand on that?

BASC didn't fight the case, Natural Resources Wales did , BASC say they put up £140k to help NRW on a case they could barely lose ?
WJ lost , so should have paid costs anyway?

When have BASC EVER spent members money fighting a case , unless they knew they couldn't possibly lose?
How much have they spent fighting the GP letter fiasco ?
How much have they spent on lead shot toxicity research ?
I think you know the answer.

Basc takes MILLIONS a year in subs advertising and training courses, how much do they actually spend on providing services , and how much goes into the wage pot ?

You can't ask BASC questions like that. Just do as you are told.

So is it legal to shoot pigeons on/over stubble?
Is roost shooting of pigeons legal?

I hope he does, as I recall they were a minor party in that, but thanks for reminding me they didn't or rather couldn't claim costs on that
You're doing yourself no favours. The fact that you mentioned it confirms to me that you full well know that they couldn't claim costs because they weren't being taken to court and simply volunteered their time, money and expertise to the fight. Something that they couldn't have done if they had wasted it on stuff like fighting lead bans!

And where was the explanation over the main duck out?
They don't have to explain or issue the minutes of every meeting. That would be ridiculous. Regardless, they don't need to because 99% of the members are intelligent enough to know the obvious answers without an explanation.
