Want to hunt in the US?

These guys may be of use if you want to hire a camping equipped 4x4 in Montana
Just had a look and they look cool .... then you see the 225$ a night price tag

Hi there.

I'd be very interested if a group was organised , spent 6 weeks around Yellowstone a few years back , its gods country & stunning place to go .
so much to do & very reasonable . its addictive once you have been there ;)

I really hope things improve in 2021, I had a terrific invite last year, it was from a guy in Idaho who hunted with me here.
Not sure of the Idaho application process as it didn't get that far, not sure if he had to buy points for me, but I would of had to apply for a tag, but finances and covid prevented me.
All I had to do was make my way to Boise, then everything was taken care of, free accommodation then an internal flight to a wilderness area, hunt for a week and get picked up.
He knew me so gave me options, hunt with him and his friends, or go off on my own, I would have done a bit of both but taken all the advice I could.
Hopefully it will happen one day.
These offers don't come very often, if any members on here get a similar offer grab it with both hands, there are some great people across the pond.
Cheers
Richard

I would love to hunt in the US. Anyone on here taken their own rifle? How easy/hard was it. Where did you find the info to go over there to shoot. Thanks.

I’m hooked on Alaska hunting trips
Watching them anyway ! I’d love a trip there as fit as I am for 50+ I think I’d need 12 months prep for that trip one of a lifetime!

I wanted to do an Alaska hunt even bought a .338 Win Mag but work got in the way, now at 71 game that is off.
DO IT NOW.
Just watched billy molls offering on YouTube and it was the keeper from next door estate shooting a bear 🐻! His tips are bigger than mine 😢

Altitude is a killer!
Beautiful country though and congrats on the deer.
Nice looking Elk, logistics, Llamas have to be the way to go.
Did you hunt on your own or with a local?
Cheers
Richard
I was just going to comment on that.

The US is a wonderful place but the western mountains are higher and tougher than most realize. The highest point in all the UK is Ben Nevis if I’m correct. The absolute lowest point in all of Colorado is only 500 feet or so less than the peak of Ben Nevis.

If you go, and please do, make sure you plan for altitude acclimation.

I would be very happy to join a group planning to do a trip to the US in 2023. 🤞 I'm not fussy and picky, and can cook too 🤪 not sure that's an advantage though

I have shot Alaska on my many trips there with work, I would be keen on joining a group to the USA , provided we can get a scout leader to pull it all together lol, put put my name in the pot .

There are so many options to hunt, can be an expensive trip or somewhat cost effective. The US has some great opportunities as does Canada, have done a moose hunt in Newfoundland, Caribou in Quebec and a pile of white tail deer, bear hunts. I plan to head to the West at some point and try for an elk or a Mule deer but for this next years planning its a black bear hunt somewhere here in Ontario and white tail hunting on my own property

What part of Ontario? My father sides family hailed from Georgetown, I worked in Orangeville back in 1971.

If your wanting to hunt big game in the Western US, forget the group hunt idea. The more people, the more points you will need. Exception would be if everyone had
points, which is seldom the case. I made a post about this a while back. Best advise is to get off your duff and start accumulating points. Pick a game animal, pick a state, pick a specific area and go for it. That said, there are a few exceptions where you can buy over the counter tags with no points. You could do a group hunt in those areas, but those hunts can be crowded. I believe Montana may have some opportunities that don’t require a lot of points, just a lot of money for the tags.

There are exceptions in some areas. I believe a 1 point antelope hunt in Wyoming is going to have a lot of private property. You can likely draw a unit 45 antelope tag with zero points, prepare to pay $$$$$ for a place to hunt though. I have found that a decent unit in Wyoming that has lots of public land to hunt on with lots of game, will take about 3 or 4 points.

Speaking of Montana, if you apply as a group, if just one of you draw you all draw, and yes points can increase your chances of drawing, especially limited draw entries, but points aren't required, I have been there 4 times without points and drew every time.
But a word of caution, choose your 'group' very carefully, it's a tough hunt and some don't have the correct mindset.
Cheers
