Anyone noticing a reduction in the number of buzzards lately ?
There seems to be a lot less about here this year, and not so many nests.

Funny you mention it as was chatting with mate about the same just the other day. Certainly seems to be the same across here too? It’s not as if we had a particularly hard winter?

Voles on the moors and Heathland seem to be going through their population crash 7 year cycle, 3 years ago walking the moors every step you would see loads voles and many raptors feeding on them to just an odd one now.
The collapse in rabbits will no doubt be a factor too also big increase in Ravens, peregrine and many others BOP that will not tolerate buzzards and actively predate them

Could the extreme heat of last summer also of caused a decline??
I thought BoP chicks can't regulate heat until quite old so could be vulnerable to extreme hot weather

Nothing scientific, but recall starting to see busby in areas where not colonised around thirty seven years ago, now many most places compared to then.

Way too many around here.
Personally BOP are nice too see but there are too many.
Bit like various other predators. So many about other wildlife is being affected.
The countryside is changing as it’s not allowed to be managed correctly

Plenty down this way, have them circling over my house fairly regularly. On the areas I have in Bedfordshire, its overloaded with them, never seen so many as this past few winter months.

More buzzards and rabbits around in my bits of the Chilterns these last few years.
No slowing in kite numbers either.

Seems Billy is moving into the cities now, just like foxes, they are not & never will be limited by their prey species. There aren't any rabbits in Norwich.

seems bop in general on the up, including hen harriers, don’t know about the golden eagles in Scotland, but suspect all traditional nesting sights occupied?
Did have a hobby visit when living in aberdeenshire twenty years ago which was not supposed to be upt north, how are they doing down south, as summer visitor or has status changed.
