Imr4166

Here is the IMR data for the 55 grain Speer bullet - you won't go far wrong with this... but 36.2 grains is quite poky. CIP top limit on pressure for the 22-250 Rem is 58,000 psi and the listed pressure here is considerably above that. (SAAMI top pressure is 65,000 psi, but I don't think their cases are stronger than ours!)

I have been using CFE223 but have just loaded 3 sets of different loads with IMR4166 as was given a brand new tub so thought I would give it a go. The first thing I noticed while loading though was how difficult it was to go through the powder measure compared to the round powder I’m used too. I ended up breaking apart the first 5 as didn’t trust that they were the same. I got into a habit of tapping the measure to make sure it was empty. Think next time I will use just a dipper and scales instead of checking a few with scales. Will leave a reply once I’ve tested them.

How did you get on with the CFE223, I'm just dipping my toe into the dark arts and trying to narrow down a good choice of powder to start with? Also 22-250, 1-14 20".

I had good results with 22/250 on the lighter Bullets around 45/50gr but still working on 223 loads as it’s a new caliber too me. It has the copper fouling remover build into it apparently but not quite sure what or if it does anything.

Not 22/250 but, if my Sako .243 is anything to go by, it (4166) stops copper build up in the barrel. 30 shots, a squirt of Borefoam, leave for 20 minutes and patch out. No blue on the patch. Bore scoped it and it's clean, so looks like the copper remover element works - on my barrel at least.

Thanks, I acquired a pile of 50gr Vmax so looking for a powder to start with. So far from what I read it's a choice of CFE223, Reloder 15, Viht 140 or possibly 135, and of course now IMR4166. I was going to take the 'pin the tail on the donkey' approach as there doesn't seem to be a clear favourite.

However, given the current supply situation and the fact that America is now going to buy up any future supplies for the forseeable, it's probably more down to what I can get my hands on.

It would appear that I haven't chosen the best time to get into reloading.

Had another go with IMR 4166 today pushing 60Gr sierras and I’m glad I didn’t sell the pot. Obviously 60Gr seems a good combination with this powder and not with my CFE223 in my REM 70048BF18B7-2327-47B6-87C1-D34748E51899.jpeg
