8 months isn't long enough

I knew the chap as a young gamekeeper, just starting out. He was in the same school as my kids, but a few years ahead.
He seemed a decent lad then. Clearly he's got in with the wrong crowd somewhere along the line and gone off the rails. I have no sympathy.

I wonder? I'm of the view that this is something you're born with. I truly doubt if you can 'learn' to like cruelty. It must be something rotten that's already part of you, I reckon.

I’ve been to terrier shows in Derbyshire in the last 10 years and seen dogs win shows with bottom jaw injuries/scars.
The only animal that does that is billy !
I don’t use my terrier for anything other than rats. But she’s very good at beating and also excellent at retrieving ducks of our flight ponds ( but you have to get them off her before she’s on the bank 😂)
She’s 10 1/2 and the the best ! Lives up to he name ‘Cracker’ should have called her Nonstop !

Going back to the eighties I knocked about with blokes who had all manner of dogs. I always had Spaniels, some had running dogs ( no real interest to me but I never missed a Waterloo in 25 years) I could never get my head around someone breeding terriers pups bring them on for 12 Or 18 months putting them to Charlie or Billy and see them getting smashed to bits. I simply don't understand and please experts don't try and justify it

Keeping working terriers is walking a fine line
Some of them are psychotic and unworkable whereas litter mates are sensible and steady workers
I'm in now way condoning what this muppet has done but I know full well how easy it is for earth dogs to get knocked up and scarred
There are a lot of holes in that article and having seen my best friend get put through the legal wringer by both the rspca telling lies and subsequently the police and courts Ultimately being found innocent despite the rspca murdering one of his terriers I'd take anything printed there with a lorry load of salt
Just remember fox control with terriers in protection of livestock and gamebirds is perfectly legal

'Fights'! their words or his? are they saying he was using Patterdale terriers for dog fighting ?or are they trying to word it to stir up public anger , I don't know . i'll play the devils advocate for a minute or two .
Read the article again he had 11 dogs in kennels no mention of what breeds , 2 terriers had what they describe as injuries to various body parts 50 pictures could have been one event or 50 who knows the texts could have been asking for help/advice from. An out of hours vet or it could have been a series of bravado look at me type messages either
Country vets I have known would trust many a working dog man be it terrier lurcher springer or lab to be able to care for and sort out bites cuts knocks barbwire rips dewclaws or tail tips and let them have a bottle of penstrep or such but I suppose that's all the stuff of anti horror stories too now
What I do know without any doubt is that the rspca and a non fieldsport friendly vet can and did turn and twist facts to paint an untrue picture to suit their longterm anti hunting anything adgenda!

landkeeper, this is about a vile person arranging contests between dogs and foxes or badgers. By it's nature that will cause injury and suffering to all the animals involved. If you want to start another thread about the RSPCA and a dodgy vet not acting properly, crack on by all means. But be aware that by trying to divert this thread, or explain his actions you run the risk of people wondering whether you condone this person's actions.
