Bit of a long one this but very true and in my opinion very funny and I think this is what makes shooting such a great sport to be involved in. On a very organised shoot in this local parish maybe mid nineties, one of the picker ups.let's call him Arnold working his Labradors one which was called Bruce. Each gun had a picker behind them. What could go wrong?? Arnold had reason to berate Bruce in a very vocal manner, plenty of B C Q and others. At the end of the drive the gun in front of Arnold came up to Arnold and apologise profusely asking what had he had done wrong.Turned out the guns name was Bruce. Every time that Bruce the gun turned up at the shoot years after, he always asked for Arnold and Bruce to be his picker up. Great days RIP Arnold and (you you bastard Bruce ).

You can't make that stuff up! Truly funny!

An old shooting companion of mine - a second dad really had an old lab called Sue that i remembered from being a lad.
The old boy is getting on now and having shot with him for other 40 years we were reminiscing.

I was telling him about my first partridge with him and how Sue fetched it - my first goose the same - then another event where Sue had collected another guns first bird and so the stories went on for a few hours like they do.

Slowly it dawned on me that many of these stories - for there are many - were years and years apart and Sue would be well into her 50s ! And also turned from black to yellow back to black !

It turns out that Sue - was several dogs over many years - but the old boy liked the name !
