Donating shot game to food banks.

I don't know the legalities as I no longer shoot but with the spiralling cost of living and ever increasing demand for food banks has anyone ever thought of donating surplus shot game (Venison, pheasants, game sausages or burgers, rabbits etc) to food banks.
OK there will be one or two snowflakes that would be up in arms about it but I would be willing to bet that the majority of the genuinely less well off that rely on food banks would be very thankful of the extra bit of meat but as I have said I don't know about the legalities.
Any thoughts Gents as this might be a good way of promoting game shooting and stalking in general as well as showing the general public that stalkers/game shooters are not just out to kill things purely for the fun of it?

Excellent idea but I believe if it’s not in a tin or a box they won’t touch anything fresh especially a slab of meat.

I suspect you are right there Papa. Gone are the days when everyone used to go to the local butcher and get their cut of meat straight off the wooden chopping block.
I would suspect that there are many legalities involved as well, all due to the snow flakes who go out of their way to spoil it for others!

It might be good to approach the food bank and ask if they would put a flier up stating the meat is available.
That way if someone wants it they could contact you direct thereby bypassing the Foodbank and reducing their liabilities.
Could also add a recipe, to any cuts, to help people who don’t know how to make use of the meat.

In the hopeless expectation, that I could encourage my own dysfunctional brood to get into 'sustainable' eating; I once sent my son a photo of a freshly shot Muntjac, with the caption:-

"Is this any good to you?"

"Only if it comes cooked on a plate with vegetables".

Bastard.

Never liked him...

Not to take anything away from donating game to food banks, which is a thoroughly worthy cause, but Mrs Gunn now uses WhatsApp to contact a group of neighbours in our village who will happily take surplus game.

I have been very pleasantly surprised this season at how many of these neighbours have taken game that is still in the feather. Duck, pheasant, partridge - all have been gratefully received and, from subsequent feedback, provided delicious meals. I would have quite happily dressed the birds if needed, but neighbours both young and old are apparently happy to do this themselves, and full credit to them for doing so.

This is particularly handy on the local game shoot I am part of, as we like to distribute as much as possible to guns and beaters at the end of the day. Our keeper and shoot captain run a farm shop, but they process so many game birds for themselves and others that they like to see any surplus from our shoot go to members if possible.

I've even had one or two in the village who will take a deer in the fur, though typically only muntjac.

By and large I find that, as much as free food, it is the fact that it is wild food with provenance that attracts people.
