A list of stupid things for a man to do...

Everything in moderation sir, its actually not good for you to go cold turkey.............honest
I think that may be correct.

However, having conducted a lesson in immoderation whilst on the Dark Continent last November (already seems so long ago), I thought I would 'wind my neck in' when I got back to Blighty.

Other than Christmas Day (guests over) I have sacked it off completely.

And do you know how feel?

Thirsty that's how....🍻

Buy hardwood dowel as the Deal wood is what it says on the tin....Soft

Any chance you could consider tapping from the other end?
You know that your rifle is counter bored, maybe that’s the problem?
Or just get a bigger hammer…

couldnt you just do a 1 4 1 get a 308 win and stop with all the messing about? odd chamberings seem far to much bother to me

I've never slugged a bore before (never needed to), but IIRC you're supposed to use a piece of pure lead, not a lead projectile (which is much harder due to the antimony added to the lead during casting).

Maybe that is part of the issue?

Oh dear - that’s torn it!

Upon further recollection, I did have to remove two bullets stuck in a barrel once. I ended up having to run a long 1/4" drill bit down the barrel with a guide, and drill a hole down the center of the two bullets. Afterwards, the bullets were easily tapped out with a dowel and a mallet.

Perhaps slugging your bore with a lead slug with a hole in the middle would work better?

Oh, and I believe you're supposed to slug the bore from breech to muzzle, since the barrel may be tighter (or looser) at the muzzle. (???)

@Muir would know the process off the top of his head....

Some funny comments here…..I,….erm…… had a friend who slugged his bore WITHOUT oiling the barrel broke the plastic handle on a Parker Hale cleaning rod hammering the obstruction out😳😳😳
