Two considerations based on my ownership of both pump and dive-shop filled cylinder:

• The effort to fill the HW100's cylinder with a foot pump is non-trivial. You will be a tad flushed at the end. Which is fine, but plan to have a period of time separating pumping and shooting or the crosshairs will wobble on target
• When serviced recently, the Bellville spring washers in the regulator were slightly rusty. That was ascribed to using the foot pump which does not scrub moisture out of the air. [dive-shop filled tanks are sources of very dry air by comparison]

One other consideration for O-ring longevity: if not in use for extended periods, screw the HW100 cylinder out until you hear the air release. If stored in situ, the breach and breach seals remain under constant presure.

I have 2, 1 is a bullpup fullsize and the other is the shorter thumb hole jobbie. Bloody brilliant in my opinion. In 177, I use a bottle (easy) or pump (good hardish work). Don't listen to the people who say that the pump lets water in, my Hills has a water trap which works a treat. Don't know if you can get the delivery that some dealers offer up there in Jockland.

Fantastic little rifle. Used mine for HFT and pest control just dropped in a single shot loader for the HFT. Not massively pellet fussy, mine really liked 10.65gr H&N Barracudas.

I changed out the OEM air cylinder to an extended lightweight item from A&M which reduced the weight and upped the shot count.

As others have said, you really can't go far wrong with them.

Thanks for that, I looked at some of these vids, & I know what will happen if I get my banana fingers on something fiddly, it usually explodes with springs & grub screws going everywhere, leaving me with some kinda Chinese puzzle on the bench. I'm fine with a lump hammer chisel & angle grinder, but somethings are best left alone. Thanks.

Another to add, when I chrono’d mine with heavy pellets (I think they were diablos or JSB) it went over 12ftIb. They were set very close to the limit from factory

I've a HW97K in .22 and it really is a great gun. I toyed with the idea of the HW100 but heard they suffer from leaky valves. I'd recommend looking into it before buying.

Unscrew the cylinder and it purges the entire system of air,

Don't bother servicing the cylinder, just replace after 10 years, nothing to really go wrong with them.

Servicing is easy, just need a few basic tools like a ser of decent hex keys and a socket set. Dental tools are good for getting the akward seals out.

Only thing that's drastically gone wrong on mine was the trigger sear broke. Cost me the princely sum of £14 to fix and I did it by myself!

I bought a HW100KT in .177 a few years ago from Steve Beatty at Ivythorne. Absolutely faultless, and amazingly accurate. I'd not be without it. I can't think of any cons about this super little rifle. I use a manual pump, and find no problem with it at all.

Pre-service, my HW100 was at 8ft/lb.

Definitely chrono post servicing.

A few assembly/disassembly steps may be required to get the pre-set on the Bellvilles to deliver the legal sub 12ft/lb required. Consider that 11 ft/lb will give a wide margin of legal safety and sufficient ME for most close range applications.

Right gents, I’m going to take a plunge and hoping to go for a HW100 KT.

I was going to pluck for a .177 for a change of scenery over my springer unless anyone can convince me otherwise?

Are there any cons to this rifle? I have the 77k in .22 and it’s really well made. Nice rifle. Was planning to stick with the same brand.

I was going to pluck for a manual pump unless they’re totally impractical? Do most gun shops in central Scotland have dive bottles or the ability to refill easily? Think the bottles alone add on an extra couple of hundred quid?

Lovely rifle - I have the 110 in .177 and whilst it's a nice piece of kit wished I'd gone for the 100 - A pump will keep you fit but a bottle is a good option long term.

Personally I'd opt for a dive cylinder to refill.

You can pick up a standard 232 dive cylinder that you can fill anywhere cheap as chips £99 for a 12L. Hw100 has a 200 bar cylinder on it so you won't have any issues and will get about 20 full fills for a £3 diving cylinder fill.

Also it's dry air so you won't end up with rust issues like you can get with a styrup pump

The outfit that supplied the parts for my DIY service were HW100Tuning. I definitely think that DIY is the way forward if you are halfway handy with standard tools. [I also bought a manometer to help set the regulator more precisely at £10]


I note they also do servicing but are fully booked at this time. But if your HW100 has already waited 5 years, perhaps a few more weeks no issue.

I have one in .22. Can’t fault it really. Very accurate. I like the side lever action to recock and load the next pellet. 14 shot rotary mag (you get two) is great for ratting. I’d shell out for the dive cylinder, it’s much easy to refill the rifles reservoir than a pump and as said before the dive bottle air will have significantly less moisture content.

Ratworks are another option for servicing and tuning if not so keen on DIY. Not the cheapest, but will be a superb rifle afterwards.

Personally,I’d wait for Steve and Mel @ HW100Servicing. First class service, a full invoice of work carried out, you can cover any issues before sending off your rifle. They also have many100’s of satisfied customers and only deal with HW 100,110 so a specialist on your rifle.
