Hadrian’s wall tree felled

The fact that it had a white ring painted around it makes me believe that it was done by an official local government agency, probably the council on some pathetic health and safety grounds thought up by some equally pathetic individual trying to flex their insubstantial power.

From the pictures looks like a pro has cut it down.
Natural England probably gave a grant to remove an invasive sikamore tree.
Reminded me of a conversation I had with a then conservation type occifer for ne as I pointed out what to me was a remarkable beech tree and thing of beauty, his response was it should not be there in his opinion as the uplands and planted by man and not in keeping
With its natural surroundings.
Might add this was twenty years ago and the subject was rewilding and tree planting😂🌈

Am sure there was story about a conservation group copper nailing and ringing the bark on all the beech trees on island in Loch Lomand, so that mentality is wide spread in the 🌈 conservation world.

Few dealings I had with snh around the same time time ish as beech tree comments I received was by comparison to natural England they were then a very sensible and pleasant group of people compared to the very biased anti fieldsports natural England suspect it’s all gone Pete tong.

Earlier this year I remarked on the disappearance of a line of poplars alongside a footpath that had 'gone' during forestry work in the area. I'd assumed it was because they were old and one or two had started to die, but was told they'd been cut down as 'a non-native species' in accordance with the rules for some forestry grant or conformity regulation or other.

A lot of non native species about I may have been to harsh and must embrace the concept.

Not one for conspiracy theories but it has been known locally for many years that the national park had a major problem with sycamore gap . In that the tree is damaging the wall which is a an ancient monument . There was talk of them planting another tree further back and then cutting the sycamore down to preserve the wall .
I heard the tail 7-8 years ago by some masons working on the wall then . 🤔

Probably Plymouth Council, something to do with urban regeneration?
My missus and I are sitting in our caravan planning our walk to Sycamore Gap tomorrow. I guess mostly that won't be happening! She has been looking forward to it for ages, we were going to round the day off watching Robin Hood for some reason.

The Picts will be streaming through by now, pillaging and looting and raping.

But seriously, what a moronic thing to do. If it was some sort of government/council doing, I think we’d have heard about it by now. The dis-chuffed farmer might be a good bet perhaps. Or the mong with a new chainsaw and a brain the size of a pea.
