If I can remember correctly, (I may be mis-remembering) the way I have sent guns via RFD before is that the RFD put the gun on their ticket, post it to the receiving RFD who then transfer it onto the buyer's ticket (the RFD write on their ticket) - could your RFD do that?

Might make the purchase more appealing to a prospective buyer?

It isn't legal to do it that way. Which is why RFD's stopped doing it a long time ago. Clear HO and Basc guidence on it now to clear this up. This is due to the certificate stating that the seller must fill in the table. The owner (original certificate holder) and person recieving sales funds is the seller, so they must fill in the table. There may be the odd dealer out still agreeing to do it this way but then again there may also be a time these types of transactions will catch up with them and the original certificate holder (seller), so really it's just worth doing it the way it should be done.

Apparently posting as Rabbit describes is the way it’s supposed to be done.

Many RFD’s used to do it the way you describe but I believe have been advised by the Police that it not the correct way.

Rabbit quality gun at a good price. Just a suggestion if RFD transfer is required why not ask the RFD you will use to send if it is ok for the buyer after paying the deposit to send their FAC to the RFD and you will then drop the gun to them and complete the buyers certificate. That way the buy feels more comfortable in sending away their certificate.

Thanks for the advice , but i dont think the problem is actually who receives the license but the actual posting in case it gets lost , but by posting it special delivery the whole process is secure , sent and returned within 2/3 days , however i will ask the question at my rfd if it would make the buyer more confident of sending it , cheers 👍

Yeah theres no rfds up here that i have found that will do it the old way i think it changed about 5 years ago , but i have bought guns sending away my license to the seller using RMSD with no problems at all

If only , that was the old way but they changed it , i havent found a rfd up here that will do it any other way than the new way

I recently had to send my ticket away to get a shotgun sent. Whilst it was away I had a visit from feo for renewal. He said I shouldn’t have sent it as local rfd could write it on when I picked it up from them.
It seems as usual every force has different ideas.

Yep thats the only way I've done it in the past, I would have to think long and hard before sending my ticket off to an unknown

But that way is not the correct way, which is why i suggested you engage with the RFD sending the firearm for the buyer to post their certificate directly to the sending RFD to be completed by the seller when they take the firearm onto to be dispatched. That way you are not sending your ticket to an unknown.

What I do is to get my and the sellers RFD to connect and swap their RFD credentials over after I've paid for it its then secure with sellers RFD and they then ship the firearm out RFD to RFD direct not to the buyer, its secure transit and the only time you get the firearm is if your paperwork is correct after being checked at your rfd, I would have thought that is the most secure way that's how I've done it in the past

That’s correct however the seller, not the RFD receiving the item, needs to complete the buyers certificate.

It’s been this way for perhaps 5 years plus now.

Yep :thumb: sounds good, my last two rifles came direct from Blaser via an order from the gunshop /RFD so I guess they sorted that paperwork out

Exactly that, it's an easy process that just takes a bit of getting used to. If we think about it, the firearms dept send our licenses to us using regular class postage.. not special or signed for. So we are going a step further sending special, to ensure it gets to where it needs to. I have never lost a license sending mine or receiving one and sending it back via special delivery. I have however, on one occasion in all those years, not received my varied certificate being sent via regular postage from the firearms dept.
