Scope Recommendations

Hi All

I’m looking to upgrade my scope but I keep talking myself out of what to buy.

I’ve been looking at zeiss, nightforce and vortex. Got a budget of around 2k but don’t want to spend it just because I have it.

What scope would people recommend for stalking and long range target shooting ideally I’d like something with at least a 24x max mag.

Thanks I’m advance

What is 'long range'...?

Do you only shoot target at known ranges, FFP or SFP.

Element is a good scope, if you want zeiss V6 or S3 or S5.

Nightforce NXS in SFP NX8 or ATACR IF FFP is preferred.

thanks for the feedback gents, maximum id be shooting out to is 900 yards on the vary rare occasion but will regularly be shooting out to 600 yards and dont really want to be swapping scopes

The other way to go is to have two rifles, one with a stalking scope and the other with a target scope. I've tangled with this question for 20+ years and two rifles each with a dedicated scope is the only satisfactory answer that I've found.

This type of rifle ( factory 1980's Remington 700 in a HS Precision stock, triggertech trigger, no 'truing' or fairy magic required) will do fine out to 600 yards on targets and kill any deer within those ranges too.

Won't win any F-Open comps but isn't impractical to take stalking.

Scope is a Bushnell 3-12X44 LRHS with First Focal Plane reticle.

Keep in mind that FFP reticles have the distinct advantage over second focal plane scopes when holding over for elevation or across for wind.

Whatever you choose, be sure to spend money on the mounts too! I'm using some Burris XTR's to ensure good alignment and maximum erector travel.

Don't be afraid of buying a quality secondhand scope, and don't be fooled by a 'name'. I'd pick a Japanese made scope over a European made one everytime.

Good luck!

Going to upset 'slash now... as going to sing the praises of some European glass 😳

The OP will not go wrong finding a s/h Zeiss Diavari 6-24x56 with a #43 reticle - depending on age it'll have 0.5cm or 1cm clicks & 'target' turrets on elevation & possibly windage. Available illuminated or non-illuminated & priced circa £900-1100 depending on spec. The #43 reticle is a mil dot so handy for aiming off if target shooting & is true to subtensions (angle) at 12x or half subtension at 24x

From experience this glass is excellent in low light & I have 3 now including one on my stalking rifle which sits at 8x most of the time but gets wound up if I'm on the fields or up a seat etc. The other two are on 'target' rifles which get used for culling too.

Quite baffling to have a scope marked in 0.05 mil clicks (so needing to mentally divide the numbers on the turret by half each time!) and only have 16 mils of total internal elevation available. Add a second focal plane reticle and you have another over-priced piece of Eurotrash... :cuckoo:

Times have moved on and the Euro scope makers are stuck in the past!

Lieca PRS also worth a look I've seen them about the 2k Mark

Just be aware that it's a re-brand of a Delta Stryker, made in Japan by Light Optical Works
