New Forest Poacher Convictions

It’s not the LGBTQ or Black Lives Matter but they do occasionally sell clothes pegs and do some quality tarmacing and are all qualified tree surgeons.
I’ll let you keep guessing
Maybe I just don't have a naturally prejudiced turn of mind.
You may recall there was a gamekeeper convicted of some pretty nasty animal cruelty offences not so very long ago. Perhaps that was typical behaviour for gamekeepers?

Hmmm.
Community backgrounds aside, if you read the full article they are clearly violent thugs who in their minds choose not to abide by society’s rules; each clearly has “form” across more than animal abuse offences and now they have been removed from said society.
Great news - bring it on!

How can you reform that sort of character so that they can be released in safety and they will not do it again upon being released from prision

The simple answer is you cant. On release in a couple of years they will be straight back at it.

You can if you use prison as a rehabilitation process rather than solely a punishment/keep them temporarily away from society.

America has undoubtedly one of the harshest prison systems with long term sentences (for a 1st world country) and yet their reoffending rate is one of the highest. Looks at the Scandinavian countries with some of the "nicest" prisons and much shorter sentences yet the reoffending rate is much much lower.

People are often blinded by anger and want to see the offender punished (which they are by having their freedom and liberty removed) but also treated like an animal and yet don't realise the long term result of treating people like animals and then act surprised when they come out of prison and act worse than when they went in.

You could look at another way.
Make prison such a vile and terrifying place to end up along with brutal sentences that it would deter most.
Prison for habitual criminals is a badge of success and elevates their status.
People make mistakes and perhaps deserve a second chance, personally I know a couple who have had just that experience and had an opportunity to reform. It is from them that they assure me that a lot of the other inmates pay no attention to the system and have no intention of reforming.
I have visited 3 high security prisons in a former life and had this explained to me in great depth by the staff and with brief interactions with the inmates.
Sad situation tbh. Plenty of carrot but not enough stick.
Just my opinion.😎

Also the death penalty should be reinstated for serious offences. Why pay to keep this scum in prison for life , better off getting rid.

This case is slightly different to the usual hare and deer poaching convictions, as there is video and other evidence of deliberate cruelty to animals, which in the mind of the public is probably second only to child abuse. The group managed to secure convictions for themselves by filming their dreadful abuse and in doing so set themselves up for widespread public hatred that goes far beyond any prejudice they may face for being associated with a community.

Stealing and petty violence is one thing, but torturing Bambi and Thumper is in another league entirely.
