New shooter here (shot many years ago just getting back into it)

So my license has passed and I’ve been shooing around for gear. Moderators is somthing I’ve never even thought about. All the rifles I’ve ever shot are handed to me with the gear in place etc….so much info it’s overwhelming.

I’m sorted for my Rimfire I’ve been told to stick to wildcat panther/sak or hauksen.

Center fire I’ve been advised to get hausken too but the rfds have had issues finding stock here.

I’m getting lots of info here and that seems to be hausken but if I can’t find these what’s the next best option.

Also what model 😂😂

Over barrel or end barrel?

It will mainly be target shooting I’ll be doing with stalking days fitted in as and when.

If you are doing majority target shooting, I would avoid a reflex (over barrel) moderator. I would also avoid aluminium moderators and focus on steel that that can take the pace and heat of target shooting. What calibre are you using?

6.5 creedmore and potentially 6.5 prc in the future so I’d like to buy a single mod to do both if that’s a thing

I've just got an HQS mod for my 6.5 creedmoors. The benefit with this mod is that you only need to change the barrel nut for it to fit different muzzle threads. The internals are all stainless.

They do muzzle and reflex mods. If you go for an hqs reflex type ensure it clears the barrel as you can't increase the internal diameter on them.

Hi
We manufacture all stainless steel end cans which would be ideal for your application, I would agree with Eric, avoid a reflex unit as it will simply trap heat in the barrel when stringing shots.
If I can help give me a ring on 07833 212214 or email at colin@sp-filling.co.uk

I use seperate wildcat evolutions on my 243 and 17 HMR.

I find them a good compromise between price ,performance and weight plus they are easy to clean. Although like everything , they have increased in price, which may make them less attractive.

Some Might say that they would be overkill on a rimfire but they are a lot quieter than a SAK and better for the ears.
