Case in point. 20 years ago, it was damned near impossible for women to find female sized waders, boots, trousers and what not, geared for the shooting sports.

Back in the day and issued with a Glock, we were working 'out of town' with another Force. They were issued with Sig Saur.



Turned out one of their officers (female) had issued a formal complaint, that she was being 'discriminated' because the grips on the Sig, were too big for her hands - this put her at a disadvantage .

She was entirely correct.

Fair play to her home Force, they ensured that their Sigs subsequently came with appropriate grips.

We have a lady FLD in our area (Avon and Somerset) - charming and very thorough with it. I had purchased a moderator and neither the gun shop nor I could see any serial number - The lady FLD found the number however !!

If it’s the lady I have dealt with recently a more helpful and pleasant person you’d be hard to find. Credit to the department.

I thought an acronym must be pronounceable as a word? That’s just a bunch of letters.

@Conor O'Gorman not that you or BASC will care 2 hoots enough is enough my membership is going to be cancelled before it’s renewal. If women want to shoot I’m sure they will. On our beaters day today I can think of 4 or 5 females who will be out. Not bad average when off the top of my head there will be 16 or so guns out. What concern of BASC is it the percentage of women own FAC or Shotgun Certificates. If women want to shoot they will. My partner (female) shoots well and will be with me on keepers day. She won’t shoot again for another year, not that she’s anti shooting (obviously) just that she prefers golf.

Personally I wish I could write things better than I do but I would suggest BASC have better things to fight than this.

The only reason you want more women in shooting is because they will invariably be drawn to driven shooting and associated fancy dress making for nice pictures. 4am slogs on the marsh through the mud or stalking in crappy ground probably not so much.

Call it what it is a pr stunt to make it you look better in the public eye don’t dress it up as saving the hobby.

You’d do better to make shooting more accessible to all by lowering the now eye watering costs.

The number women with gun licences might not be an accurate reflection of the number of women who shoot, as there will be alot of lightweight shotguns used when they go shooting with their other half but are listed on their other halfs ticket..
