Reloading powder

is there a shortage on or something, i got some more Alliant RL-10X from my local the other day, £44 for 1 lb, but that was his last and no idea when he would have more,
seen some at other places with prices from £55 to £80 for the same tub, but as its all collection only its not really viable having a 4 hour round trip to get any, not that id pay £80 for it,
iv also been using N-133 from my other local whos run out, a lot of online shops iv looked at its just run out, run out, run out. can it not be sent from one shop to another like firearms?
on a pleasant note though i did manage to get 1000 CCI small rifle primers despite his saying he was limiting customers to only 300 a time,

Do not dwell in the past when primers were tuppence and powder free. Hunt down only what you need, and hope for better days.

Hi Lee.
Try
Kirklees guns 01484 544600
Mirfield guns & ammo at Yorkshire shooting club 01924492458 -------phone line only open club hours.

IMO try to settle on Vihavuori powder (more available) and Hornady v-max bullets (more easily available) -------then buy 2 years supply ------both these's place's will be within 12 miles of you.

Two of us here in Dewsbury have developed loads with nosler bullets ------that we now cannot get so were have to re develop a new load with what is available ie Hornady.

Nah...

Shed loads of powder and primers available now

All RS Powders in stock with the importer, spoke to him today! (with the exception of RS40, but we have lots of that too)
So much Viht came in before Christmas we actually got offered more of our back order
We load with N133/N135 extensively so have a lot

RWS SRP/LRP primers came in and are available for direct import
Magtech just arrived so that pretty much everyone has volumes

if home loaders would stop buying 8kg and 5000 primers at a time "just in case" then you would see a lot more!
Dont buy two years supply !!
Unless you are shooting FClass and need a solid batch or lot number of primers and consumables you don't shoot enough!
I know someone who boasted of having 20kg of one powder and 100,000 primers!!
Why!?
roughly 8000 rounds worth of powder
50 rounds a week for every week for the next 3 years!

CCI and Federal primers may be a distant memory....but do we really need them? no-one is missing deer or the occasional target because the changed from CCI BR2s to RWS or Magtech
Alliant and Hodgdon Powders are coming through in dribs and drabs but at current retail they are as much as £75 a pound

Am sorry but when you can get a kilo of European Viht or RS at £110-120 (£59 a pound) why would you bother?
RS powders have produced some of the best accuracy and higher velocity loads and have some bonkers universal powders
We use RS60 is so many cartridges from 243 up to 300WM

One thing I am noticing is dealers are not buying some things in
Ammo and reloading consumable are in that list
Lot of the "not available" is often "we don't have it"

Would be nice to be able to afford to buy 8kg and 5000 primers 😊

Hope he has a licence to store it all.

Possibly because it’s reached a price that few are buying in any quantity to justify stocking the slow moving types.

Not sure what is "slow moving"
we have had to restrict primer sales to 1000 and some powder sales to avoid one person buying 5 year supplies to the detriment of others
one person asked for 10kg of RS60 in one go.

no need
plenty coming in now

But if their is plenty, why restrict the quantity you sell to an individual, looks to contradict what you are saying.

Having just started reloading i had no idea of all these shortages, and i dont really want to buy more than i need, iv enough of everything to keep me going for a year now so im happy enough,
i will worry more about it when iv nearly run out 👍

Stock management!
Because I can see the panic buying and the ever increasing volumes we are having to order of a single product and the huge lead times between supplier deliveries coming in to us.

It could be six months or more between suppliers getting the next shipment
Our back orders have to be placed before that to receive what we want.
Any further orders go to the back of the line.

Forecasting primer sales 6-9m ahead of a delivery is futile when people are being advised to buy 2 years supply

Its a covid toilet paper situation!!

And then customers complain when some retailers take advantage and charge £300 a 1000
Or as I saw during covid…£25 for a 12 pack of bog roll in my local post office!!!

Its was an issue and we got through without zombie apocalypse and the country being overun with deer and other animals.

Now its not
But all our customers deserve some supply and I try to make sure we don’t run out between deliveries because some single customer wants to buy unnecessary volumes
