New law to retake driving test at 65

It looks like someone is proposing a new law that requires older drivers to retake their driving test at the age of 65, I'm not sure what stage this is at or how far it will go but I have just been reading it in my local online news paper.
Not sure if it's already been covered.

Yes great idea, at a time when most government departments can’t keep backlogs to an acceptable level let’s dream up yet more bureaucracy/regulation to put an even greater strain on our diminishing resources. ( Yes I am over 65)

I once suggested they should pull random drivers at the roadside and carry out the theory test in a mobile unit, if you failed you had a month to resit it, at the same time there would be a reaction test.

I think you should look at insurance, I'm 66 and paying £140 per year for a new qashqai, how much do you think a 25 year old would pay? and who do you think the insurance company thinks is the greater risk?
The risk is based around a lot more things than who is the best driver. The fact that you bought a Quashqai might be a red flag to the police that your eyesight is failing for a start! :coat:

We have all followed old people that shouldn't be on the road. Perhaps 65 is a bit early but 75 might be a good starting point? However, the driving test centres already have a backlog so I don't think that this is something that is going to happen over night!
