New law to retake driving test at 65

Well I have paid in 47 years into this system. With two jobs, I have paid PAYE and Self employed stamp all these years. So I am taking every bloody penny I have paid into the system. I hope I live long enough to get it back with interest.
Like I said, if younger people bitch about those now receiving their pension, after paying into it all these years, go and get another job, stop moaning and get on with it. And all these statistics about living longer is also rubbish. Try telling that to some of my friends who never achieved pensionable age.
Yep, that’s right all the stats are rubbish because you know people who died young. Ok Malc, whatever you say! :tiphat:

One things for sure, when today's young people eventually get old they might well regret their short sighted views on pension age and payment, its your own futures that you are forsaking. As for balancing the books perhaps us older folk shouldn't have paid for the education and medical care for children who clearly couldn't support themselves, or perhaps it wouldn't do for all of us to take a narrow minded self-centred approach?
Or a realistic view?

Wow! Thats so impressive. 71 you say? Amazing….
WTF do your alleged racing skills have to do with the thousands of senile old codgers driving dangerously about on our roads? NOTHING
It has a lot to do with it, you look to be taring us all with the same brush, it has nothing to do with age I know people half my age that couldn't drive a nail never mind a car. If you want to retest people try a few thousand BMW drivers.

Ha ha, back in the day it was Volvo drivers who got all the stick....

Not tarring people with brushes.
I’m not saying that everyone over 65 is an incompetent driver. I am saying that many elderly people cannot see that their abilities have deteriorated or are unwilling to give up driving knowing very well that they cannot cope as well on the road as they used to.
These people need to be forcibly removed from driving if they can’t pass a modern driving test.

It’s the parking outside schools that gets me, up on the pavement, on the zig-zags, blind bends you name it.

WB

Yep, and our local cllr has the cheek to speed trap locals on a stretch off road where speeding isnt really a problem but does bugger all about the dangers all the school parking brings as the school is on a cross roads.

Those zigzags are to maintain visibility to protect your child, not a private bloody parking bay.

It doesn't quite work like that, I know guys that can shoot the eyes from a gnat but put then on an FC test and they go to pieces. The main reason is lack of practice if you don't use it you loose it.

Are you saying that you think that people who passed their driving test years ago (despite any perceived pressure) but cannot pass a driving test now (due to the pressure) should be allowed to continue to drive around on our roads regardless of their inabilities?

Not at all, probably half the drivers on the road wouldn't pass their driving test again. Some people thrive under pressure and some people collapse under pressure. But who is going to decide which is which.

And many younger people have no ability. Everything is a balance. Something your and Baguio arguments lack

How would you feel if you went into hospital for brain surgery and some little old lady walked into the operating theatre with a scalpel and said “oh don’t look so worried dear, I became a surgeon in 1968.
I haven’t done any kind of training since then though…..which leg was it again??”

I’d like to make driving licenses more like the FAC. I’d have conditions added to your certificate as you get older.
