Trout tickling?

Any members doing it or have done? Its an old Pom way and I have only met one bloke here that had done it in Aus.

Caught my first ever trout by tickling it. 14 years old on holiday with my parents, Dad and I had it for breakfast. Only fly fishing these days though.

Approach from behind, lay on the bank, move very slowly, hand underneath, stroke slowly, finger in the gills, and out!
Probably best not tried in Australia though. Might lose your arm!

Did it once, as a kid, maybe now fifty years plus ago. Up near Scafell Pike or maybe it was Skiddaw. Wild brown trout in a stream. We blocked the stream with some rocks to create a pool and, yes, got maybe a couple of fish out. It wasn't really "tickling" but putting an arm in, getting the hand under the fish, and then hoicking it out. We them cooked them laid flat of flat stones with the fire underneath.

use to do it as kids on our local river during the summer months when the water was warm and running low
Great fun once you get the knack

Have done this in small woodland streams - look for undercut banks and slide hand and fingers upstream until you feel one and grip hard. Many more lost than ever caught but great fun if cold on the arm of a 9 year old. Those streams are still there but the trout are mostly gone.😢

Done it a few times , also with salmon and sea trout under banks/roots ,, they use the same ones in the same Pools year after year ,, it's was something to see how relaxed they became after a a few strokes on the flanks and bellys etc , the hardest thing was some one holding your legs whilst you dangled from above reaching under the bank ,,, we always let them go again !!
