The DSC1 is the foundation of deer skills development.

Candidates with considerable prior knowledge and experience or who have studied in their own time can sit all five DSC1 assessments. These are a Written Paper, Game Meat Hygiene Paper, Visual Identification Assessment, Shooting Assessment and Safety Assessment.

No training is provided on the day other than a Range Safety Briefing for all firers and a Rifle Familiarisation session for those using a loaned club rifle. All Candidates must ensure that they arrive fully prepared to undertake the Assessments and we recommend reading the BDS DSC1 Manual and using the UDD Online Training. Candidates taking the Lantra Large Game Meat Assessment should also be familiar with the BDS Field Guide to Disease, FSA Wild Game Guide

Rifles: A rifle legal for shooting deer in the UK is required for the shooting assessment. Any candidate who wishes to borrow a BDS Club rifle may legally borrow one free of charge under the BDS Gun Club rules. To be eligible to borrow a rifle you must be a member of the BDS and will be asked to complete a Section 21 Declaration Form unless a valid FAC is held.
FAC holders must have their certificates with them so they are able to sign the range register and therefore be able to comply with society rules and regulations.

Venue: Edinkillie Community Hall
