"Partners to be quizzed in new gun licence screening"

Only in the trial phase at the moment apparently but thought it was interesting and worth having a read so thought I'd share it anyone else hasn't seen it yet

"More than 5,000 applications have been subject to the additional questions since the trial began last year."

When I was doing my application, I wondered why family/partner references weren't requested - I get that they could be biased and shouldn't be requested on their own but didn't see why they weren't asked for in addition to the two non family references 🤔

It was aired on the BBC 6pm news last night. One poor lady was advising one constabulary after her looney partner/husband had stalked her after breaking up, and then held her hostage with a shotgun. CCTV footage showed the looney dressed in cammo holding a shotgun to her chest against a car.

There will always be the odd one slipping through the net of security checks. But one has to ask why at times these certificates that are revoked, are suddenly given back in some cases. Especially where domestic abuse has been proven, or threats.

I didn't see the CCTV footage but that sounds horrific - poor lady!

Extra checks certainly wouldn't be a bad thing && if anything, partners and family will know you better than friends so their opinions should definitely help identify areas for concern if any to the police for investigation/consideration

I don’t disagree with these added questions, 1 less looney is a good thing.

My worry is I may need to apply for my next FAC a week or two after receiving my new one.

I emailed prospective PPC candidate in my area (using the BASC email template).
The Liberal candidate shows no empathy, understanding or willingness to expand his understanding.

The Red candidate has not bothered replying, the Blue, not bothered supplying an email address to allow the request.

🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

The worst of this is:
Despite the recent and historical wrongdoings by shooters. They are still the most law abiding adults in the UK.

Politicians and Public Servant's are amongst the most dangerous groups to the public in general (not including the stupid laws, rules or conventions they deem are for our good).

Also they are pigs to the trough’s in a more consistent manner than the public in general.

It mentioned them wanting certificates to be renewed yearly in that 'article' (if you can call out that)

Couldn't imagine how much of an impact that would have considering the current back log and that's with renewals at 5 years ...

(I don't have an FAC or SGC yet but applied in October and last I heard, still pretty backlogged)
