Dry tumblers are rubbish.. Whats a cheapish alternative

Hi all,

I've come to the conclusion that dry tumblers are shite and a total waste of electricity.

50 233 in a dry tumbler for an hour and I managed to wipe more dirt off with my hand than it had done in that time.

Looking at £50-100 max.

Though I'm going to see how they come out of the dishwasher as they're currently enjoying a normal cycle.

If they're nice and clean that might be my regular cleaning method.

Hmm good shout, I may well give them a rinse and spin in the hand tumbler I have.

Sounds like your media needs replacing or try adding some Autosol Metal Polish.

However they are dirty to use, I moved to an ultrasonic cleaner.

I have a wet tumbler and media separator somewhere, happy to sell if you’re interested

Once they have been lubed and resized, and in the chuck for trimming/chamfering, a couple of seconds with some 0000 wire wool will bring it up to a good shine and remove the lube.

If you need more, a 3 or 5 litre sonic cleaner with a tablespoon of citric acid and a splip of Fairy dish soap will get the majority of grime off, but won't be 'shiny'.

I had the same issue, vibrating cases for hours with no result. Some years ago I bought some of this, cases now only need an hour in the corn cob with a capful or so mixed in.

Mine isn't even taking off the easiest of dirt

Ultrasonic. 15mins and your done. Walnut won't clean the insides properly. If you want shiny then tumble them for an hour.

Agree. Use good media, a teaspoon of jewellers rouge, and a squirt of car wax. Mine come out gleaming and soft to the touch after 2 hours.

dollop of T cut in the media and tumble them overnight and you’ll have the cleanest shiny brass.

An hour is not worth even looking at

Skip tumbling altogether. If I want to look at something shiny I stand in front of a mirror.

I wouldn’t bother then, 000 wirewool does the job just was well in a cordless drill
