22 WMR

How do you know that? Cause you’re the first person I’ve seen mentioning it ?
look at how auto's and semi auto's are perceived, look at what some governments are doing in terms of large capacity magazines.

I'm going to hazard a guess that within a few years there'll be no semi-auto .22's in the UK, and all magazines will be limited to 5 rounds

Muir - great to hear from you, I really value your input.
Well, tin hat on and prepared for incoming flak, but....... I have an AR15 in 22 WMR. its the most powerful semi auto we are allowed in the UK.
It is a UK built gun by guncraft, and I absolutely love it. 16 inch barrel. Super easy to add bits to the pic rails. Guncraft recommend 40gr and up to cycle reliably, that is what the bolt/buffer spring is set up for.
I still have 300 of the CCI gamepoints, so not abandoning them totally, but if the hornady critical defence do better then the CCI will be used at the club on targets / gongs.

So show us some pics of your AR. It’s an interesting rifle / calibre combo.

22 mag was developed for use in a small pocket pistol for defence , its killed things a lot tougher to kill than a 100 yard fox ! You get the off fox run with a well placed 243 win lung and hart shots are not always " Dead right there "
Its killed a fair few polar bears , Walrus, Caribou for the seal hunters
I would have one over a hmr if i didn't have the 22 hornet

I doubt the average person could tell if you 22 was break action, bolt action or semi auto. I am pretty sure most of them don't know the difference between a semi and an auto. Actually maybe we should call semi-autos "self loading" to reduce confusion.

David.

Where do you get this crap from.
The first Winchester firearm to shoot the new cartridge was a slide action rifle model 61.
It was designed as a varmint round.

Yes thats what I believed. It was designed as a varmint rifle round and pistol use came later. Can't say I'd fancy tackilng a polar bear with one, unless I could tiptoe up to it while it was asleep. I would think most would rather something beefier in a bear attack situation?

I read up on it earlier as I forget stuff.

Winchester came out with the round in 59 with nothing chambered in it until a year later. Model 61.
Marlin may of beat Winchester in providing a rifle.
Pistol and revolver makers did jump on it immediately. Their products may of been advertised as a self defence firearm but that was not, as far as I can discern, Winchesters design requirements.
The cartridge was a natural progression of the Winchester rim fire, again a varmint round, not a combat or defensive cartridge with the exception of charging squirrels and racoons!

I had no issues. The bolt is balanced for 40gr and above ammo, so it didn't cycle reliably with the lighter stuff. This is made clear in the info that comes with the rifle so no surprise there. An occasional spray of light oil on the bolt makes it run smoothly, and keeping it clean; but no need to be too fussy. 45gr Hornady critical defence ammo expands really well, and grouped well too; so that was my preferred ammo. I fitted a better pistol grip with a rubber finish, all AR15 parts fit so swapping bits about is simple. 22wmr is quite a step up from 22lr in power and bark, so I usually ran it with a mod on. Great fun at the range on steel gongs!
I moved the rifle on to fund another purchase, but positive comments all the way on it. I believe there is a waiting list for a new one, they make them in batches once enough are ordered I was told.
Thoroughly enjoyed mine. Hope this helps?
