Ineos Grenadier halts production

I know views on Ineos and particularly the Grenadier are pretty marmite. My own view is that it’s not perfect, but that its a very capable offroad and overland type car / truck. And its expensive, but not that expensive when compared to competition and the level of kit it comes with as standard.

Part of me is looking forward to the time you are getting reasonable mileage vehicles that are seven plus years old that could be the basis for good expedition type truck.

However they have to halt production because of supply chain issues. Speculation is that its due to Recaro who make all the seats going bankrupt, but it may be other components as well.

Or in newspapers such as Telegraph but behind a paywall.

But they sell! They’re everywhere here in the borders, and might I add, not a speck of mud to be seen on any of them. Love the concept, but need to be closer to £45k to be a contender against a good pickup

I love them , think they look fantastic, have the perfect drivetrain and would love to own one but just not for the price of 2 Hilux’s
Exactly that. If money wouldn’t be an issue, would thoroughly enjoy one. Looks built for farmers, just priced not for the ones growing legal stuff. Looking forward to the 7 years old driven as status symbol :)

My only dream is the good old 70 series becomes available again in the U.K. and NOT with LED lights and weird Chelsea curves - the original design. That, I’d pay good money for - esp if they aligned the front and rear wheels 😉

No, fake news.
They are not selling enough. I know the company that produces the axles and chassis parts. Ineos have cancelled orders and put production on hold on their own.

Oh, the lights are in fact the first thing I would change on an old Landy. LED all the way.

Not that I can afford one, but my only issue with them is that lump sticking out of the footwell on the drivers side. Don’t think I could live with that.
And not keen on side opening rear doors, much prefer lifting type, but then it isn’t a Range Rover, it’s a landy.

That is part of the problem - they don't sell!!! Only 187 have been registered in the UK this year from January to August, down from 583 for the same period last year.

The halt in production has been due to Volkswagen Group pulling out of a massive seat contract with Recaro. Not only can Ineos not obtain seats now but unless they obtain the tooling for the original Recaro seat used in the Grenadier then any new seat used would mean they would have to go for crash testing and type approval all over again.

I read recently that production was on hold as an essential trim item was unavailable so would appear a seat is pretty essential!
Also all the ones I have seen are on private up market estates.

It's a niche market for those folk who have money to burn and hark back to the old Defender. That, in itself limits the market considerably.

Buy LHD then it is not an issue.
