Dogs are outside with access to the kennel, which has an internal wooden insulated sleeping kennel inside which they sleep in.After all these years feel a bit of guilt these days so going to add some kind of heat lamp and was wondering what was best out there?
Plan if viable was to cut into the roof and incorporate it but not sure regarding ventilation or height needed above the dogs so any advice appreciated.

Cheers.

Use a round bar heater maybe, dark at night.
Put it above the bed on side of kennel
A plastic strip over the pophole to the run.
Cosy

Do you think that will be good for your dogs?
I'm not so sure.
Will the provision of additional heat affect their ability to grow a really nice thick fur coat in winter that enables them to withstand a day in the field in foul weather?

Cheers all, when home will have a look online and see what's available and maybe ask you a question or two.

Think plenty keep their working dogs inside so don't think it would inhibit their working capabilities really.
Mostly just for a night after a day/ evening of working.

Radiant heat panels all day long main thing is to minimise drafts. Height wise depends upon your kennels.

If they hold their body weight and the boxes are insulated, then I can’t see why the need for extra heat. Dogs are hardy animals and get in fine outside. Far enough if you have a dog with a coat like visla or light coated lurcher then a coat should do.

I would have thought that would take generations and selective breeding and/or natural selection rather than a few weeks of additional warmth? I don't know enough about dogs moulting whether it's based on daylight seasonal changes, just time or temperature. I would have thought that the thickness of fur was down to genetics and wouldn't be controllable by the dog due to available warmth at night.

Light in your doghouse will cause dogs to loose hair. Check your farm supply stores. They have flat heaters for the floor. Built for abuse and wire covered cord. Put an old mat on top. If you put your hand on one it will just be warm/not hot. Good for my dogs to 40 below.
