Are Game dealer prices at an all time low?

Not a successful outcome to the conversation if you've succeeded in putting someone off buying venison! I think you need to get some positive vibes into your narrative in time for the next encounter. There's a fantastic story for us to tell around venison, and the more people we can persuade to buy it the better.

That may have been the perception of the 2 people you spoke to, but I don't think it's the general view. I believe that most people are well aware that the primary producer gets a raw deal in the food industry.
Are you in the same country as me or are you in Wonderland 🤷‍♂️positive vibes .. can you buy positive vibes from somewhere cause I haven’t seen any this last wee while - in fact they’ve been scarce for years now . I’m no Jackanory when it comes to stories , I tell it the way it is and if you think I’ll be changing my narrative to all things bright and beautiful then 😉.. I know I moan but I’ll keep on shooting because I’ve done it all my life 🤷‍♂️

It's really not difficult to put a positive spin on why you're culling deer (environmental damage due to overgrazing etc etc blah blah blah), and how important it is to get more people eating venison, rather than just having a good old moan about prices.
Even someone of your limited storytelling abilities ought to be able to manage that.

I’m with Bugsy on this - I would wager that most folk think the person that supplies the deer does fine out of it when they know what it costs in the shops.
There a massive jump in comparison to carcass prices paid by Game dealers , and again on supermarket shelf price.

The person getting the deer off the hill has the most expense to do so, yet gets compensated the least.

You really are in wonderland 😁I knew it .. nah your alright Mr Jackanory I’ll tell it the way it is .

What the GD sells it for doesn’t come into it, thats his business, our business is supply, I get £1.40 per kg including the internal consumables at the same rate for high neck and lead not non toxic shot fallow, the carcases are properly shot, well prepared and stored for pick up and paid a week in arrears by bacs, the agreement is as many as possible before xmas 50 is the overall mark this season and a few after and any goeshomers and all the sold carcases at the same price we are already nearly 40% done.

I KNOW I’ve said this all before, I must sound like on old clucking hen BUT if next year it was a pound per kg, its still on, no moaning or dropping of standards it your business to get a fair price for an excellent product, but plan in advance, moaning doesn’t resolve anything, its the 6 p’s that make it a success for the coming year

If this is wonderland then it's effing cold in here!
I'm actually in my larder right now, cutting up deer. Been here since 6am.
But you're right, it is a kind of wonderland: Deer come in the door worth £65 and go out again worth £400
Not a bad place really, wonderland.

To be fair (to you), it's not really that wonderful. You're saying 15 hours cutting, probably knock an hour and a half off for breaks etc., so your labour would be say £300, then add in electric and waste disposal costs, the only reason you have for doing it is you enjoy being your own boss.

Funny thing, game. It often costs an awful lot of money to get it. Usually accompanied by a lot of effort. When you sell it on it has very little value. However, it costs a lot when you wish to buy it !

How about a mix of both- tell them about the economics and the need for culling, along with the health benefits and sell to her/them?
It needn’t be binary. (Unless you’re not allowed to sell direct of course)

I know game dealers are in it to make money, but Christ there’s easier ways to make money than dealing in game. When I look at all the shlt my local 2 dealers are expected to get rid of, not just all the badly shot pheasants and deer, but the skins, the bones, the trim etc etc.
finding anyone who’s happy to work with meat at sensible money is very difficult, and if they are happy to do it, they’d almost definitely be better off cutting beef than venison.
All the time I can get somone to take a pickup load of deer at £1a kg I’ll happily live with that and let it be there problem.

Ask yourself how much you’d want to be paid to skin and cut 30-40 fallow a week, pluck or breast a couple of thousand birds, plus market it and have all the expenses and difficulty’s of running a business. How many of us would be lining up for a job there at under 30k a year?

Just heard on the grapevine that Contractors in the future will still be paid a bounty(somewhat dimished) but will also get the carcass, nobody wants them, they are not worth the effort contrary to what you here on some forums.

Well that sounds a great way to get even less deer shot! I bet every single Contractor offered this option will straight away ask if they are allowed to leave them where they fall.
